my heater doesn't work...

Well, it works now, but mostly i wanted to show you guys this.
This is a photo of the heater box with heater core. The crazy thing is, it blew heat out like mad! I replaced it since it started leaking!

Re: my heater doesn't work...

once in a while, it smelled like burning hair, but mostly it was just very humid air.
Mark... I think you are right, it had done this since the day I picked it up!

Re: my heater doesn't work...

reminds me of what happened to mine during the 1st phase of its build. I had it in a shop in the country for like 2-3 months at the most. Found two dead young mice in the floorboard when I was swapping the cab over and hoped they were lost. LOL!
Got it together and kept smelling rodent piss when I drove around and finally opened the box enough to look. Mine wasn't as big of a nest as that...but it doesn't take much to smell. Cleaned it up and haven't smelled it since.

Re: my heater doesn't work...

All that moist/wet leaves and mouse debris is what probably did in your core.

I don't have a good solution to prevent it in the future but I have cleaned out many heater core boxes that looked just like that.

There is nothing worse than firing up a car that has been sitting a while, turning on the heater, and seeing mouse turds come out.

I usually bleach out the plastic box before re-assembly. The bleach smell goes away a lot quicker than remaining mouse smell.

Peta

Be careful! PETA will see this and insist that we retro-fit all our trucks with an emergency mouse escape door to prevent these tragedies...

seriously though...if you have really good timing, you could have pulled him out around about medium rare and had a snack on the road
