Re: searching for rack and pinion part#
I bought mine from Auto Zone. It is an ATSCO 6406. They are remanufactured racks. Without a core it was $119.

Re: searching for rack and pinion part#
Before I did the street rod gig, I turned wrenches for my dad at his repair shop. We strayed away from anything Autozone. It's not the highest quality, BUT they do have a great return/warranty policy. They will exchange you parts all day long if its bad or defective. I personally won't run an Autozone rack on my ride, nor will I install one for a paying customer. With that said, there are several guys running them with ZERO issues. On the flip side, the biggest tech. support issue I deal with is in relation to the rack and pinion. There are several different manufacturers and variations from 79-93. I have never had anybody call me with a fitment or tech. issue when using the rack I previously posted a link to. The rack in the link is actually a Unisteer part#8010020 that Summiut reboxes and private labels.

Re: searching for rack and pinion part#
nate i think you are right, i am going to spend 1300.00 on a front crossmember and not put a quality part behind it. ya just sold me on unisteer for the road use. i might use a cheap one to roll it around for mock up.
