Exactly how much power are you looking for? You can bolt an a$$load of power onto a 350. You dont need forced induction.

Take it from somebody who has been around the "turbo" block a few times... Naturally aspirated is the way to go for a daily driver. Trust me and save yourself about a bajillion headaches.

ETA: and about the same amount of money too.

heads, cam, intake, carb, internals, bore it, re gear the rear end, shift kit in the tranny, high flow water pump, electric fans, port matching, exhaust, and for a 350 you can find any part extremely cheap because every one and thier brother has a 350

it all depends on how much power you want though, best way to do it is through the heads with a matching cam and open up the intake and exhaust

i kind of like turbos better if your going to go forced induction, it doesnt but any load on the motor till you go on boost. But I think you should start with heads and cam like they were telling you above. you can make good power before you go on boost. besdies when you do forced induction you have to head, cams, beef up the lower end, etc. so plan it out in a way that you use everything over when you do go for boost.

I did well with a turbo on my street driven mustang, it was more work than throwing a procharger on it but I got bigger gains. To properly boost a car or truck in this matter there is so much else that needs done first. You need PLENTY fuel and hot enough ignition. You also have to watch what kind of shape your engine is currently in, you will put a lot more stress on the bottom end. But if you can make it happen it is worth all of the work in the end.

If you want to learn about forced induction, get Corky Bell's book. I really think you need to do some reading to decide what you want. Its not like snapping leggos together. I know that you already know that but I am being fecetious.

I agree with slipkorn. Your gonna have to do some internals to a 350 for forced induction anyways. theres just tons of parts to make a small block as radical as you want without forced induction. But if you gotta have that noise i understand. I was in the same boat once upon a time.

There is no replacement for displacement. But if you must, for a daily driver, like the man says, go with a Vortec, and work with them. They have the knowledge built on empirical structure, and you can't buy experience. Remember too, that sometimes less is more. And if you have a mule buy a through breed to race, (crate motor that is engineered to run a blower or hair drier.

A procharger or other centrifrical type blower with a blow through carb will be the easiest way to make a lot of boost, and alot of power. However, you'll still need a forged bottom end, good flowing heads, and a stepped up fuel system to make it work right.

Either way, it can be an expensive route. Like others are saying, if the total package isn't upgraded you wouldn't be able to run much boost without something eventually giving, which kind of defeats the purpose of having one. I run a 671 roots blower with 10 lbs of boost on pump gas and driven this setup daily for a little over 2 years without any problems. And to change the whole rotating assembly, cam, and bearings cost almost as much as the blower itself. But at least I do know that the engine will hold up to this and more if I were to run better fuel. Like I said, expensive!! A cheaper but very effective option would be a small hit of nitrous. It all boils down to how much you are willing to spend. Here's what gets me around. Not by any means a horsepower monster, just a little eye candy and gobs of torque. i think initially he just wanted to slap on something like a small t3/t4 turbo some piping and an intercooler and be done with it, am i right?

one of my friends wanted to do just that with his toyota tercel
but now just wants to do it to his solara

Go with the "usual"
Good set of heads (vortec, dart, ect), intake, cam (not too big with lower compression), headers, ect will wake it up a little

If you care about mpg boost isn't something for you.A good built 350 with bolt ons and a over drive trans will be your best bet.

If you go the forced induction route, you need to start your build from scratch going on that assumption. A turbo or supercharged engine needs to run lower compression than a high performance N/A motor. Not that many people run turbos on a SBC, but I'd like to see that change.

You could probably find a bolt-on supercharger kit that will run low boost on a stock motor. Pretty sure Jegs and Summit carry them. Expect about 100 HP for $2500-$3000.

One day I'd like to build a monster twin turbo SBC and put down over 1000 HP, but the budget doesn't allow it right now.
