Bed mounting pads

Is this a factory item or something that the aftermarket has determined really helps with noises on the truck?

It is an aftermarket item. I use conveyor belting to make the pads, cutting the squares out to fit and then punching a hole in them.

so just a piece of rubber cut to size? does it help alot? or is it a waste of my time to make these (beds off currently)

My question is, does it screw with the body lines due to the added height? I get my truck back from paint on Friday, so we shall see.

no one else had any answers for this? I think a fairly thin 3'16" piece of rubber would be just fine... think of how sagged out your cab mounts probably are already

I heard the bed pads were standard on. Cst's !
I have them on my sons '67 .

I talked to Paul from GMCPauls today about an order I placed. One of the things I ordered was the cab and bed mounting kit. I asked about the bed pads because it was an option. He said that these are typically used to keep the bed bolts tight. If you drive down bumpy roads a lot the bolts come loose and the bed rattles. If the bed is tight to the frame I doubt there is much noise. My truck is a street truck that I'll occasionally drive down a farm road to go hunting so I opted not to use them.

i've alwas made my own out of 1/8rubber ssheet stock//i figuered it wouldn't hurt cost about nothing to make took about 5minutes to fabricate a set so it was cheap insurance against mystery squeaks from metal on metal contact

I would think that it would mess with your grounding also

I drive alot of gravel. Will it mess up my body lines? And could someone answer the grounding ?

A simple grounding wire would fix the ground issue.I would put them in just as a precaution.I don't think I want a squeak and they are cheap or free so........
I sure wouldn't want to pull a bed just to install them because I had a noise.I doubt the 1/8-3/16ths would make a lot of difference in alignment and it should be easy enough to add that under the cab mounts if needed.

those bed mounts are a poor sourse of gronding anyway// a ground strap from the crossill of the bed to the frame is the foolsproff way to get a good ground connection,it's been proven quite a few times in the electrical section over the years
