Going nuts trying to find wheels and tires.

Hey guys,

Well as the title says I am losing my mind trying to find the right wheel/tire combo that is one: in my budget and two: looks good.

I have a 72 C10 LWB that is stock height with a 2" rear drop, I like the Coys/338 style wheels but am not sure they will look right without a drop. I know I can afford a new set of rallies and tires, but not sure I want them.

I have a line on a set of 17" centerlines that look nice but am just not sure they will look right...ahhhhh I'm losing it

I have given myself $1000 to throw at wheels and tires right now, I can spend more but am trying to keep my spending under control. Anybody have a good line on wheel tire combos in 18"or 20" in that $ range.

Or better yet anybody need $1000 that wants to ditch their wheels.

Here is my truck before the 2" rear drop, it has a nice stance to it now:

You need to be careful with larger diameter wheels with a nearly stock ride height. Anything larger than 17's start looking goofy. You need to build the vehicle to accomodate larger wheels, not just bolt em on.

Your best bet will be to stick with 17" or smaller wheels, but get taller tires to fill the wheelwells up. For example, with 17" rims, 255/60/17 or 275/60/17 tires will look better than 50 series tires. If you went with 15" wheels, you could get. say a 255/70/15 tire, that would fill the fenders up nicely, or possibly go with a 275/60/15.

The problem I see in your case is the $1000.00 limit. The bigger the wheel diameter, the larger the bill to go with them. I've spent the last year or so looking at wheels myself and haven't really found exactly what I'm wanting either. My budget also dictates this as well. I've found lots of wheels I like, I just can't afford them right now.

Since you asked though, I'd be willing to part with these wheels/tires for $1000.

1st, I like the Cragar wheels, I would just add taller tires

Got any pics after the 2" drop?
I dropped my rear 2" and you cannot tell a difference and I am told that rear springs don't "settle" like the front does

Yeah, I will try to take some today. I went with drop blocks because of hearing similar stories of people say the springs didn't drop them down where they wanted to be.

I was really happy with where the 2" blocks put me. It has a really nice stance to it now.

Wait till you have enough saved to get what you want. Easier said than done, I know, but if you settle for less you aren't gonna be happy.

Yeah, I have the money to get whatever I want, I am just trying to budget myself cause if I don't I'll have some shiny new Bon speeds on there before I know it

My biggest problem is trying to decide if I want to go with 15",16", 17 or 18", I think I have ruled out 20-22" cause I think they will look wrong without a full drop.

I will have to just decide, or as my lady says, "just get some wheels, you have been looking forever"

On my 72 GMC that was not lowered a lot, I got some 17" torq thrust with 275/50/17s all around and I thought that looked good.

I found the wheels "new" in a box on ebay. The guy had bought them for a project and only took one out of the box to check the fit (never had tires on them). I think I paid like $600 or so for them.

Yeah, I have just always hated cragars, I don't know why. I just do.

I have considered more drop, just not sure I like the LWB trucks dropped any lower than what I have now. I plan to get a SWB next and bag it after seeing some of the sweet rides on here.

Nah i'm not! I like all the trucks on here, high or low. Just not sure I want to go too low, I live on a ranch with reallllly crappy roads from all the rain lately. My bump stops would hate me
