WIW: 1972 GMC 4x4

I'm building a new house so Im considering selling my truck to fund some of the things the wife wants extra. What do yall think its worth and am I insane for even considering it? (Note: This is my idea not hers!)

Completely rust free body. Currently has a short bed but it is a LWB frame. Body came from AZ and frame came from colorado. Has brand new 307 .030 over with a mild cam and vortec heads and complete serp setup minus the alternator. It was in a previous truck of mine running and has maybe 20 miles on it in 1/2 mile increments to the end of my street and back. LOL Sm465 tranny np205 transfer case dana 60 front 14bolt rear lockers front and rear and 456 gears. Rear axle will need axle shafts but has calipers for disk brake conversion. Seat was recovered and is imaculate. Doors and windows have new weather stripping. Has lots of extra things that i cannot think of as well.

Is the frame already cut down? If it isn't you might want to just part it out. Those axles I assume are from a CUCV and are worth a pretty decent amount. It is my thinking nobody is going to pay what the parts are worth for a frankentruck that isn't put together.

Nope the frame isnt cut. I was kinda thinking the same about it needing to be parted out. If thats the case then id rather just keep and finish it. It would be worth alot more that way anyway. Anyone else?

I would guess around $1500 at most. The front axle and motor are about the only thing really worth much. Just my .02. I'd say keep it and finish it.

Find somewhere to stash it and finish it later. At worst, you can use it for parts on a later project.

Wow. I would have thought that the entire body being rust free from arizona would have been worth something. Oh well no biggy. Ive pretty much decided to keep it and at least get it in one piece till i can finish it completely. I dont have alot left. its mostly just putting it together and all the little things that kill you on time.

I sold those same axles for $1,500 "because" of the bad economy.Is a rustfree body not worth anything?A rustfree cab is worth $1500,Bed $1000,doors $200@,fenders $125@,and on like that.I`d figure $2500 for the truck and a good bit more for parts sold separated,because what JYJ said is true,unfortunately.

yeah I agree things are not worth what they used to be. I really like the truck and have invested a ton of time into it so i guess all i really needed was a reality check to kick me in the butt and get me motivated again. Im gonna order the body bushings i need today cause im going back to rubber. still havent decided on the body lift or not yet though really depends on the tires i want to run. I would really like to run 37 or 38's but for drivability i might stick with 36's in which case the suspension lift i have should be enough.

I based my price on whats available out west here. Your area may be different. Rust free is pretty much expected here. Parts of my Burb have been bare metal for almost a year now and still aren't rusting. Unless a body panel is practically perfect, you can't hardley give it away here, I've tried.

I was going by where the vehicle would be sold from.Even in NV a body is worth money,though.That`s all I`m saying.

Hey Monte,cool beans.What lift do you have?I have 12.50/37s for my`72 K2500 that I`ll run with a 6" lift on 8" wheels.

Being here out west, I would have to agree with you. Midwest and east coast is an entirely different story.

here in tn rust free bodies are few and far between. Its almost impossible to find one. Hense the reason I drove all the way to the other side of AZ about 20 min from cali for this truck. Now when i got back and found out the frame was jacked i was not real thrilled but for what i paid and what i got minus the frame i came out ahead anyway i think and i got to take another trip to colorado to meet another board member to get the frame tranny and transfer case i have.

special-k do you have any pics of your truck? sounds like your running what i was thinking of. Hummer tires by chance? Right now I have 8" of suspension and 2" of body and 16.5x10 rims with 38's. The 38's cleared the bed ok with no body lift but it would be close if it flexed at all. The suspension lift im not exactly sure cause im not the one that bought it but in order to clear 38's im assuming its at least 8"s. Any thoughts on that?
