V6 water pump on V8
I am installing a serpentine drive from a 1999 4.3 liter V6 on a
350 small block V8. Most everything seems to be pretty well straight forward, including drilling & tapping the extra hole in the passenger head. My question is, can I use the reverse rotation water pump from the V6 or do I need to use something different? If so what do I need? The water pump will physically bolt up, but I am concerned about the circulation. If somebody has been down this route I would appreciate some feedback. |

Re: V6 water pump on V8
It's the same part with the same part number for both V6 and V8 applications.

Re: V6 water pump on V8
I did a similar swap on a 70 Chevelle a few years ago and didn't have any problems from the reverse rotation. However, if you're running a mechanical fan, make sure you use the appropriate fan for the pump. Reverse rotation pumps require a fan with the blades angled opposite direction of a fan for a conventional pump, so it will still pull air through the radiator and not try to shove it into the radiator.

Re: V6 water pump on V8
You bet buddy, I just went to O Reilly's website and cataloged a pump for a 4.3 V6 and a 5.7 V8 and they were the same part number.

DUDE ! I am doing the same swap !!
My problem is centered around the water pump too !! Mainly, the heater hoses. The 4.3l pump I have has two metal heater hose ports and I don't know what I would do with them if I used it. Do you have any ideas on that ? My current v-belt set up has one heater hose that goes to the intake and one to the water pump. I don't have a port on the passenger side of my radiator for a heater hose like some trucks so I need to get one hose back to the water pump. I am trying to find a reverse flow water pump with only one heater hose port on the top center of the pump.. I have pics of one from another forum.. but can't find it so I can order it. Post pics ASAP ! Any help appreciated ! Whammybar66 Hit me up with your thoughts in this ! Please ! |

Re: V6 water pump on V8
Go get a pump fpr a TBI rig, sound like yours is off a serpetine setup from the vortec gen 350s and 4.3s(96-99). The pumps from 88-94 or so should work just like your v-belt pump, they just spin backwards.
