battery relocated into truck bed?

You guys running with the battery in the bed of your truck, how is that working? What would you change? I'm going with a swb step bed and want to get ideas on the subject.
Thanks,
Matthew

Re: battery relocated into truck bed?

i have kicked around the idea of mounting one back under bed, sideways....a dry cell of course.

But every time i relocate a battery i always use 00 cable and weld a bolt for my ground

Re: battery relocated into truck bed?

I have mine mounted in the bed and used 2-0 welding cable for pos and neg cables. It really cleans up the engine bay.

Re: battery relocated into truck bed?

I have mounted mine under the bed on the passenger side on the frame in of course a battery box with a side post battery. I also used 220 welding cable for both pos and neg cables, both have rubber coated straps along the frame to keep from ever having any wear and movements on the cable to metal. remember to also have ground straps from the cab to the frame and motor to keep the ground through out the truck correct.

BMWs have used trunk mounted batteries throu most of the 80's. You could probably pull the cables out and use them on your truck. As mentioned, grounding is important as it batt post protection. Another thought is to drop it in a box that is suspended below the floor. That will protect it, lower the weight, and give you a smooth finish. Huck

I did it, not sure how boosting would go? This was a test battery I have a yellow top dry cell in her now. I keep a couple of screw on side terminals just in case I need to boost her

Re: battery relocated into truck bed?

Turner15 I did mine almost just like yours other then I do not have a top/side post battery Only I have a Side post battery and I have running off the battery a battery quick disconnect just like whats used in the link below, and I have the other end connected to jumper cables that are 25' Long incase I had to be jumped in any surrounding area's around the truck. maybe this may give others idea's and I should take some pictures and post for you all. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-74200
