Re: Wheels, Tires, and brakes
When it comes to brakes, I wouldn't go with "inexpensive". The 2 most important things on any vehicle are brakes and steering. I used Wagner shoes on my rear drums. Cost about twice as much as the store brand, but I think my life is worth it. Go to your local parts house and they should have everything you need, as well as show you the differences in price.

Re: Wheels, Tires, and brakes
You can do a big brake conversion. The rear brakes on a suburban are bigger. You need the backing plates from the suburban. Then all the brake parts can be purchased at O'rielly Auto Parts. Brake drum, shoes, spring kit, wheel cylinder, parking brake cables.
It's all bolt on, but you do have to pull the axels. ECE have a conversion kit also. Good luck, Matthew

Re: Wheels, Tires, and brakes
I just redid my rear brakes this past weekend, and it's not that difficult of a job. It wasn't that expensive either... about $150 for everything, which included:
- Shoes - Cylinders - Oil Seals - RTV silicone (I have full-floating rear axles) - Spring tools - and about 6 cans of brake parts cleaner.

Reason why im looking for "Inexpensive" Is i highly doubt i will keep the rear under my truck for very long... Id like to upgrade brakes but right now cant afford them... I figure "Inexpensive" brakes are better then half the stuff gone right? How does this list sound? Hardware kit- $9.49 Left wheel cylinder- $8.69 Right wheel cylinder- $8.69 Shoes- $22.99 Drums- $41.99 each |

Re: Wheels, Tires, and brakes
Those prices are pretty low, but I wouldn't go for bottom-of-the-barrel parts.
I think I paid about $25 each for cylinders, and $56 for shoes (Bendix). My hardware was still in good shape so I reused it. Same with drums. If you trust the brands on the items, then by all means use them, but keep in mind that brakes keep you from going 'boom', and that will cost a lot more than a few extra bucks spent on dependable parts.

Re: Wheels, Tires, and brakes
assuming you are talking about a 1/2 ton truck...
I can only speak on the 6 lug replacement drums, I have no clue about the 5 lug ones, but the replacement drums are worth just a little more than squat. Keep your old ones if they are still servicable. |
