Fuel Questions
Just curious if i need to be running a lead additive in my 68. As far as i know about the truck its all original internal wise. only thing thats been replaced is the carb. ive had a complete tune up that consists of plugs wires cap rotor points and coil. had the timing and dwell setting done also so i know everything should be good but im still gettin alittle bit of a miss. oh yea its a 6 banger 250 btw

Re: Fuel Questions
if you can still find it in your area it isn't a bad idea... I'd be more concerned about the lack of Zink in the motor oils, the damage is more frequent and more severe.

Re: Fuel Questions
I also have heard that using oil with zinc will help. Do a search on zinc and see what comes up. There's been some posts on this before.
Here's my take on it. I'm going to drive it with the fuel we get here in Texas until my valves seats start to act up. Then I'll take it in to have the heads redone. So far I've put 10K on my 250 with no problems. I got the above recommendation several years ago from a guy that owns a machine shop and drives a 65 Chevy six cylinder. At the time he said he had put around 30K miles on his truck with unleaded fuel and still running okay. Re. the miss: Check for vacuum leaks around the carb and hoses. If your wiring, dis cap and rotor are good, check the plugs again. Even if the plugs are new swap them out. I fought a slight miss on mine with new plugs and finally put the old one back on and the miss went away. |

Re: Fuel Questions
well i just put new plugs in on monday, and it made a ton of difference, but after maybe 20 miles that little bit of miss was back, i also should have added that i have a exhaust leak that i plan on getting fixed in the coming weeks, could that be a problem? i also had the carb rebuilt when i had the points and dwell and pretty much the whole ignition replaced when i did it. the fuel filter is new also.
