Name that light socket?????
I stumbled on this light socked tucked behind my dash between the ashtray and the glovebox. Anyone got a clue to what it's supposed to be for? There was no bulb in the socket and when I tested it, the socket was HOT and unswitched. I needed a hot lead for the new radio so I use this one.

appears to be a courtesy light. usually shines from under the dash on the floor area. it should be switched with the door pin which is negative.

Re: Name that light socket?????
That is a courtesy light that mounts under the dash and comes on with the dome light. It works well to light up the floorboards.

Re: Name that light socket?????
its a courtesy light, test it, close the door, and test it again. it mounts to the right of the ashtray. judging by the crimp connectors, it looks like a previous owner had some trouble with it, and tats probably why it isnt hooked up now

Re: Name that light socket?????
I thought it might be a courtesy light but the lead was hot even with the door closed. I'll have to trouble shoot it when I get the chance and maybe hook it back up. thanks guys.

Re: Name that light socket?????
mut your ohm meter between ground and the - terminal in the socket, should be less than an ohm, then close the door, should be open

Turn your headlight stalk ccw and it will also illuminate that lamp.

Re: Name that light socket?????
That is what I was thinking also. It is the light for under the dash that goes with the dome light when the door is open. In my truck if I turn my headlight switch ccw the light under the dash is the only one that comes on.
