truck consistantly dies

I have a 71 chevy and any time i take my foot off of the gas the truck dies.
otherwords it will not idle..
what are some possible problems i can check for??

6 or 8?

Vaccum leak, possible fuel problems. Hard to tell with out seeing it. But if it runs with the foot on the gas strong, Id start with those two, wouldnt hurt to see what the fuel pump volume is producing.

first thing i would check if you havent already is fuel mixture on the carb, and the idle set screw, could be idle is set too low. hope this helps. Dan

Also check your timing, if it's too retarded it'll do this as well.

Its a v-8 automatic and it dies in park and also in drive il have to check neutral tomorrow ..the more u drive it it seems to die more..

a complete tune up is a great place to start// points plugs plug wires filters all need routine maintenence as well as checking for cracked dryrotted vaccume hoses cleaning up electrical connections is good too

a good service manual will show you how to perform these tasks properly//plus it will show you how to get to the fuel filter inside the carb
