Truck Pics

Hey I'd like to see some pictures of a '67 stepside with a 4/6 drop and either 17 or 18 inch torque thrust wheels if at all possible.

Thanks

67 Stepside, 6 in drop rear 4 in drop front running 285-60VR17's rear and 235-60VR17's front on 10x17 Billet Specialties SLC85's rear and 8x17 SLC85's front.
They're not TorqThrusts but I don't like that wheel very much. Everybody has em.

Re: Truck Pics

That looks more like what I thought a 2.5/4 inch would look.Maybe I need to check some more before ordering my drop.

Re: Truck Pics

I agree. That doesn't look like a 4/6 drop on Fitz's truck.
Here's my 3.5/5 drop. Mine has 15" wheels though.

It's a 4/6 drop.

17 inch wheels with 60 series tires are 31 inches tall.
15 inch wheels with 60 series tires are 27 inches tall
Here's my back end AFTER the drop with 15 in wheels and the new 17's. They bring the ride height back to stock but fill the wheel wells better than 15's.

Re: Truck Pics

which lowering kit do you have Fitz?

Yes, the taller wheels will definitely lift ride height back up, but it should sit deeper into the wheel well above too... Not arguing, I was just surprised that your 4/6 didn't look lower. What is the lowest static kit you can get, a 5/7, and those look way more slammed than your truck, just 1" more of drop...
Maybe it's just hard to tell in photos.

It's Early Classic Enterprises...2 in drop springs front with 2 1/2 in drop spindles, supersize sway bar...rear is 6 in drop springs, super track bar & track bar relocation brackets, shock relocation kit & a CPP 1 in sway bar. The pics are really deceiving. here's what the truck looked like after the drop but before I repainted and re-engined it. It was very low...what I was looking for was a real sleeper for stoplight wars...that was the reason for moving up to 17's with the 60 series tires. When you look at it it looks stock until you look really close...

Gotcha, thanks for the info!

I'm still debating between going with a CPP or ECE lowering kit... I see CPP does not offer 6" lowering springs for the rear though, so I'd have to use a block I guess.

And yes, your tuck does look VERY low and mean in that pic there, I actually like your truck a lot better there, looks so good!

Did you notice if you lost a lot of oomph in the power department when you went with the very tall/heavy wheel tire combo you have now?

Re: Truck Pics

WOW! I didn't realize tires made that much of a difference. You said you changed the engine as well. What did you change to?

Re: Truck Pics

The tires definitely make a difference. But that still doesn't look like a 6" drop in the rear even in the before pictures. Like everyone is noting, no matter how large or small the tire, it seems like your truck would sit a little lower in the rear (and front honestly).

Here is the ECE sample picture of a 4/6 drop. Obviously 20's and if I remember, they use the same overall height as stock for reference. (someone please correct me if that is wrong)

Re: Truck Pics

Ya, that pic is really not looking like a 4/6 drop. a 28" tire is a 28" tire no matter what size wheel. And that tire to fender clearance is HUGE!!

Here's a pic of my '69 that is dropped 4.5/6". Yes, I know it's a fleetside, just for comparison reasons.... I'm currently running 235/75-15's on all four corners.

Re: Truck Pics

yeah, I was just skimming through your build thread 72BlckButy, very nice truck, you take very good care of that one! Should be proud! Looks good at 4.5/6 too.

Now I'm wondering if there is much of a noticeable difference between the oldery style CPP/ECE 2.5" drop spindles, and the new CPP Modular 2" drop spindles. I know it comes down to just a half-inch, but if I go the route of the Modular, should O go with 2" drop springs, or 3"?? hmmmmm, decisions, decisions!

Oh, and Fitz, alright, I see, no holds barred! Where's the blower on top and twin snails on the side for some compound boost? You're slackin' with that little 572! haha, kidding man, that is one badjazz powerplant right there, I'm jealous!

Thanks for the comment ShredSled! It's a labor of love...

As for the classic drop spindles vs. the modular spindles... the amount of drop isn't the best way to compare the two. The main difference between the two spindles is in how they position the wheel itself. It is able to pull the front wheels in 2" (IIRC) overall. When you add drop spindles to a 67-70 it will widen the track width of the front wheels by .75" on each side (1.5" overall). By using the modular spindles on a 67-72 you will be able to narrow the track width offering you a larger variety of BS (backspacing) on your front wheels. Not a bad idea if you are custom building a set of wheels.

Yeah, I understand they keep the front track width increase to a minimum when going to discs, that's why I want them! But that said, they don't actually "decrease" the track width of your truck, but they keep it to a minimum by only widening it about 1/8 of an inch or so on each side, if I recall correctly what I was just reading on their site, compared to the more drastic extra 3/4" on each side like you mentioned. Same spindles used withthe super high-dollar Wilwood front disc brake conversions.

But, I'm asking about the comparison because probably 95% of the trucks I see photos of are lowered using the older 2.5" drop spindles and I would like to, as accurately as possible, guesstimate where my truck might sit with the slightly taller 2" drop Modulars as compared to some of my favorite photos of other members rides here that I like!
That's where I was coming from when I asked for the comparison of drop amounts. Wondering if I should go with 1/2" extra drop over the old style with some front 3" drop springs, or should I go 1/2" taller with the 2" drop springs.... hmmmm?

My fault... misread your post.

If it were me I would consider the modular spindles, and possibly modifying a 2" drop spring to a 2.5" drop spring.

More than likely the tire height will make all the different when it comes to a .5" drop variance. I haven't actually parked next to a truck running a 4/6" drop but I bet the difference in the height of the front would be very subtle. Since it sounds like you may consider custom wheels I would strong consider the modular spindles.

Besides, once you drop it 4/6 you will then want bags, ... then a dropmember... trust me, it will happen to you.
