Bench seat back question

My buddy's 62 chevy SWB Step Side Bench seat back swings forward for access behind the seat. The Bench seat out of my 69 GMC SWB Seat back does not swing forward like the 62. Is this common for a 69 or has someone changed the seat?

Thanks,
Dale

Re: Bench seat back question

I was wondering the same. My 69 doesn't fold either. I got to thinking what would be the point? It's not like I could "store" anything with that stink a** gas tank hoggin up what lil space there is...

My 69 does not recline either.

There's been a lot of discussion about it on this site but I don't remember the specifics. I think they stopped the tilt seat for safety reasons.

Re: Bench seat back question

If I remember right '67 and some '68 trucks had the seat that could be pivoted to the front.

I know my '67 and my daughter-in-laws '68 does.

Other years can, but a bolt has to be removed.

Re: Bench seat back question

I was talking to a buddy and he mentioned that it was indeed a safety issue.

Here is what he mentioned:
Some seats had tilt locks but if they weren't working properly the seat would slam forward during a front end collision. Since most trucks didn't have shoulder harnesses this would push the passengers forward causing whiplash or other injuries.

I imagine this would be in the extreme case of a front high speed front end impact...
