Drop Springs

Ok im sure this has been asked 100 million times before, but i wanna do a 4/6 drop on my truck, is this possible to do without drop spindles in the front? i would like to get away with just drop springs. im just looking for the cheapest way to get low, cause around where i live my truck has redneck all over it and i need to get away from that lol. Also a link to a website or company what sells what im looking for would be awesome if thats not asking too much. Thanks again fella's

CPP is a good place to look for suspension parts. If your going down 4 inches in the front, drop spindles or airbags would probably be the way to go. Just using springs you may have alignment issues. Also going that low will require shorter shocks or shock relocation front and rear. If you go down 6 in the back I think you will also need an adjustable track bar. I'm sure someone will jump in and correct me if any of my advice is incorrect. Good luck

Without useing drop spindles you wount be able to get you alignment in specs.

I just went through something similar, my 2/4 turned out to be a 2/6

Then ran into this thread, which was 2" lower than mine

Then cut my stock springs and wound up hard on the stops with a 5" or so drop in the front...

So I put the 2" springs back in last night till I can buy spindles.

Some have done it, some will do it, some will tell you that you need spindles.

Personally, after putting the 2" drop springs, I'd have to think hard about it, might just shave the bump stops with 3" springs. depends on your roads

The real catch there is that if you put in 3's and decide you'd rather have drop spindles, you'd need to re-purchase springs and then the spindles...

Ultimately I'm going with 2" springs and 2.5" spindles up front and the 6" springs in the rear.

Why can't you use the 3" springs with drop spindles?

If you start with the final drop, you can't drop it more and stay at the final drop, you'd drop it lower...which may be fine... the question was about dropping it 3" though.

One issue with 3" springs is that when you jack the front of the truck up, the front springs have the tendency to come out to the pocket, possibly affecting your alignment.

As mentioned above... some have done it, some will, and some will not.

Oh, duh! Lol. I thought you were saying you couldn't use 3" springs with drop spindles at all - I forgot the OP wanted a 3" total drop. Admittedly, I was kind of freaked out because I just received drop spindles and 3" springs from CPP, but it will be awhile before I install them.

In all honesty, I may wind up having to go to that if I want it to look like it did when I cut the stock springs (my last link above) they're 4" lower than the 2" drop springs.

My stock springs to 2" drop springs lowered the truck 1" so I cut two coils off the stock springs, dropping it a total of almost 6 (putting it solidly on the stops), everyone around here (locally) liked the stance (again, third link) but I want to bring it up a bit, thus the 2" springs and 2.5" spindles...maybe 3" springs later.

Back to the original point before this becomes a real hijack...


Knowing about the geometries involved, 2.5 spindles or 2.5" spindles and 1" springs (or 2/1) would probably be the BEST way to do it, keeping the geometries as close to stock as possible. Folks run 2" springs all over the boards with seemingly no complaints, but I haven't seen many 3" springs.

i think i was reading some where on here that the 3" springs didnt ride real good and that they it would be better to cut the stock springs.
