stepside bed
I have a 79 stepside and I just started redoing the bed, I bought a bed a while back that is better shape, a little difference, my bed has steel inserts for the gas filler hose to connect to on the fender the new one has plastic, is that a difference in years? And where can I buy a new insert. Another question, how hard is it to completely disassemble the bed? I have the fenders, tailgate and front panel off, but do the sides separate from the rear? It seams like it may be tacked together, can’t find any bolts, or does it just slide apart. Thanks for your help

Re: stepside bed
I checked out your thread, how did you get the sides apart from the rear cross member? I buy most of my stuff from classic real good stuff. and how did you fix the dents? you can see them from both sides. do I need to heat the metal to help shrink it?

Re: stepside bed
the bed completely unbolts. IF its the rear panel under the tail gate we are taking about that one had small spot welds. We had to grind those off to take it apart.
The panels, i had the body guy fix what was visible on the out side. So i had the bed sprayed with Vortex bed liner, it covered up the dents and imperfections. I got the idea from another stepside guy but he went a step further and painted it. here is his thread. http://www.southwestdrags.com/forum/...?t=8476&page=5 |

Re: stepside bed
yea I am talking about the area under the tail gate. Not sure if I am going to go that far. I will check the other build to see the dent repair. I am doing a frame off on a Sport, so I want to be as good as I can get it, so far pretty good
thanks for the info Chris
