Door locks.
I am having a problem.Sometimes if I lock my drivers side door by hand, I can't unlock it. Some times I can from the outside with key. Sometimes I can't. I have taken the door apart, and everything looks good. I have power locks. Any Ideas? Thanks.

Hey Race, I've got an '86 GMC that I've put every one of the 191,000 miles on it, and it's done the same thing since the day it came off the car lot. Sometimes when you lock it inside, to get it unlocked, you have to roll down the window and push the button outside. Had it back to the dealer, and they replaced one side completely[although both sides did it] and didn't help at all. So, basically, I've lived with it. I'm interested if someone has a fix, also.

racedvl,
I've had the same problem. Seems like the locking mechanism and the button have a large clearance/space tolerance. I've had the passenger side not unlock when locked manualy or by the key. The problem went away when I switched the door lock switch. My guess I must have moved thing inside the door panel. Best way to get rid yourself of the problem is to lock/unlock the truck with the power lock button. Even better, like I just did, install a security system that uses the button locks with a "clicker". You can even just install a remote lock/unlock system for less than $70.00. My truck will now lock the doors when I turn it on and unlock when I turn it off. I can by pass this feature by having the door open then turning the key on. Security and no more door key!!! ------------------ gchemist 1983 Custom Truck TX Plates: "BAD BOW" http://www.geocities.com/abetterchemist/ |

My 84 K5 Blazer does the same thing now and again. Mine unlocks easily when I pull the door towards me when its in the closed position. But won't open any other way w/power lock or the key. My dad had a 79 ton no power in the doors and the lock assembly completely locked up and could not open the door. Very unsafe situation IMO.
