69 stepside questions, on motor? old military, do numbers match?

I have a 69 stepside that was an old airforce truck. The airforce sold the truck around 2003. The motor in this truck is a 350 4 bolt main, but this is what my questions are about. The block number is 3932386 (car, like camaro), and the heads are 3932454 (307 or 350). Did the military just put vehicles together, that were not numbers matching, (the car block)? Using spare parts GM had around?

Everything was on the motor like a c10 has, it looked like a c10 motor

Others with old military trucks, do your numbers match?

I am rebuilding the motor right now and just had these questions, look forward to the responses- thanks

I'll bite. I would almost guarantee it's all original. I've pulled that same casting number block from no less than 4 '69 chevy trucks from half tons to 3/4 tons. And the heads are from the right years too. You can find the date code on the heads too. Check the pad on the block in front of the passenger cylinder head for more numbers.

as far as i know there is no way to tell if these trucks are #s matching like muscle cars besides going off the SPID tag

The only way to tell if the motor/trans are original to the truck (numbers matching) is if you have the original build sheet for the truck. The SPID does not have the info.

Re: 69 stepside questions, on motor? old military, do numbers match?

The services bought these trucks directly from the factory, they(Green Suitor's) didnt work on them like HMMWV's, there were civilian motorpools back then that did all the work on the trucks, so its hard to tell what was changed out. Just like the Army that auctions off its surplus and GSA vehicles, the rest of the services do the same. I would really have to see the paperwork on the sale in 2003 for that truck, I just cant imagine the Airforce holding on to that truck till 03 without some weird situation. That truck should have been sold from the service no later than 10 years after purchase.

Got to see some paperwork on this one.......

When the services buy trucks, they order them through GSA, so its hard to tell what they got on the order, but they didnt get fully loaded options, most of these trucks are base models with some good options, but most SPIDS are full of badging options that take up alot of space but dont mean nothing.
