Sold the small block to fund the big block swap. Here are the specs and some pics of the new rat.

454 .030 over

Cleaning up the firewall and frame rails for paint before installing. Should have it painted and the engine installed this weekend I will post some pics when it is in.

Moved motor back 1"1/4 tonight. I did not like how close it was going to be to the radiator or how far is was from the firewall. Should help weight transfer a little anyway.

The mounts came from performanceonline.com. In small or big block applications they are made to mount in the forward holes on frame rails. You can use them in the rear most holes on frame for small block installation but the big block will not due to coming in contact with firewall. I moved it back as much as possible form front holes on frame and just redrilled the frame and crossmember to accept new location. It is back 1"1/4 from that point. In order to go back 3" you would have to modify firewall.

What is the benefit of those....I like the way they look. Stronger I guess since they are tubular. Are they easier to install the engine ?

Many Reasons. For one thing they are much cheaper than oe 72 up mounts. They are 129 for the mounts and the stands and they swap you to a car type mount so you can run solid mounts if you want. I would think they would help a little with hedder clearance and they should be easier to install.

My motor is already moved back 3" but never liked the look of my "custom" mounts. I really liked those.

hey guys dumb question but how does the trany linkage line up ??? I'm getting ready to do a swap and was woundering if that was an issue??

I have not got that far yet on swap but all factory linkage will interchange between big block and small block. The only issue I would think will be header clearance.

thanx I'm putting a caddy in mine so when I slide things in I thnk the linkage will be a good point to determine how far forward/back the motor need to be?? I'm going to have to make up a drive shaft anyway....

The cab isn't any good. I have another cab to use that i'll have to do a better job of notching the firewall.

Good looking 454s.

We just put a '74 454 from a C-30 into my '71 lwb stepper. We had to use the BB mounts out of a '75 to get the header clearance for the style hooker headers I have.

This is not a power machine though, it is hooked to old style 4 speed transmission with an open 3.73 rear.

We could not use any of the pre-drilled holes and be able to mate up to the transmission.

I did not realize I would have a heat soak problem with my starter running headers so now I have to get a mini starter. I should have though since I know others have had the same problem.

We used the BB radiator shroud out of the '74, but had to modify it some to clear the crank pulley, power steering pump and alternator.

I still have not got around to taking pictures, I guess I better add it to my to do list.

Get a snap on heat shield first to see if that'll do the trick.
