700r4 tranny install question
I just installed a 700r4 in the 67 longbed and Im using my stock auto tranny crossmember.
Heres the question. For you guys running this tranny, did you hve to drill new mounting holes in the frame to bolt down the crossmember or am I doing something wrong here? I thought the turbo 350 long tailshaft (which is what I was running) and the 700r4 basically used the same trans housing

Re: 700r4 tranny install question
I swapped from a 396 w/400 tranny to a 383 w/700r4. I bolted it up without making any holes in the frame.

Re: 700r4 tranny install question
im running a 350 hei, mount towers mounted in the front holes. the turbo 350 tranny put the crossmember in the usual location but now that I bolted up the 700r4 it seems to have scootched it back

Re: 700r4 tranny install question
The 700R4 trans mount is further to the rear than the 350, so just scoot the crossmember back and drill new holes in the frame.

Re: 700r4 tranny install question
From what I understand, the 700r4 is 3" longer than the TH350. I installed one in my El Camino which originally had a TH350 and I had to move cross member back and shorten the drive shaft by 3".

But, like said above regardless of the length, the 700 mount is further rearward and does require new holes drilled.
