?overdrive question?

i have a question about the overdrive on my 1986 chevy 5.7 350 with a th700 tranny.
Am i supposed to be driving in overdrive or just drive? I noticed that when im on the freeway that my truck hauls ass a little more when its in drive vs overdrive.
Im only 24 y/o and this is my first old school truck so dont make fun of me guys.... So whats the best gear to drive with?

Re: ?overdrive question?

drive if you wanna go fast but over drive helps save gas, i usually go in overdrive even though on the 200r4 tuning it is so touchy i ca barely get it in overdrive before it wont shift anymore oh well it still moves at least

Re: ?overdrive question?

i typically keep it in drive until i get over 45mph, then i manually click it into overdrive

local GM guru told me to do that yearssss ago and said it would save the life of a 700r4

Re: ?overdrive question?

You should be able to put it in OD and just leave it there.
