For you guys and gals with a fiberglass hood on your '73-'80, what are you doing for hood springs? Can they just be heated with a torch to weaken them?

Also, I have the inside hood release, and the hood (I think it's a Harwood) does not have the provision for the safety release hook. The previous owner simply left it off. I was thinking of cutting the correct shaped hole and making some sort of striker plate for the safety hook to ride against. This would keep the release hook from chewing up the fiberglass. Has anyone else tried this?

on a 80 I worked on the left the springs off and used a hood prop rod

I could do that, but I like being able to just lift up the hood and have it stay there. It's more classy

That kind of like my idea, the shocks off of the hatch of a suv? Fiberglass is lighter and saw them use on the other forum on a dually and I think his hood was steel but should work. Depending on what build you may be working on you could go with hood pins instead of a latch. I have a friend that has some on a honda with a fiberglass hood and works fine.
