86 Silverado

I just bought an 86 silverado.the po said it was leaking water that was the reason for parking it.I found it was the freeze plug by the flywheel was bad it sit for 6 years.I got it to start up had to change the computerise dist. for a reg one.It sounds great but when I put in gear it acts like something is holding it back.I check all the wheels and they spin freely so i knows its not the brakes being locked up.The transmission has a wire plug on it. What is this for and can I by pass it?

A tired warrior of the 1980s in a world of low profile tires, front wheel drive, and plastic bumpers, where people stay in their houses until snowplows move the offending substance from their paths, too helpless to travel without AAA and chains and salt, clearing their windows with longhandled brushes while gently stepping around in the snow trying to stay nice and dry.

Re: 86 Silverado

the wires are for the lock-up torque converter. it will kick your truck down a couple hundred rpms when your cruising to try to get better wpm. it hooks to a vacuum switch on the firewall by the master cylinder. do you need it hooked up? no. you probly wont notice a difference. will it hurt the trans? im not sure but ive been running mine without it hooked up forever and it seems fine. i say if you have the switch, then hook it up.
