Re: bed tie downs, hooks...whatever

I am going to go with these in the bed: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CHT-J-704/
I think Harbor Freight sells something similar. I have some chrome tie downs on the bedrails I got from LMC.

Re: bed tie downs, hooks...whatever

Before I got a drop-in bedliner, I had eye-bolts (5/16", iirc) in place of the front corner bed bolts. Maybe not elegant, but worked well.

Any 73-up bedliner should fit. Also, I think I recall people saying mid to late 90's Dodge bedliners will work. Trevor

Re: bed tie downs, hooks...whatever

I got an All Star universal.... supposed to be same manufacturer as Duraliner, just their cheaper line. It turned out to be a very good fit, the wheelwell shape was even the same. And you're right, it was quite a few years ago.

Re: bed tie downs, hooks...whatever

Here is what I plan on putting in my truck soon http://shop.easternmarine.com/index....categoryID=291, I had them in a ranger that I used to have and they work great. They are the same as what all the truckers have in the freight trailers. There are tons of different accesories that hook to them. I've found them at tractor supply, I sure that they aren't to hard to find.

Re: bed tie downs, hooks...whatever

I bought the tie downs that slip down into the stake pockets. I bought 2 types. The first where the cheaper one that used a butterfly anchor, an eye-bolt, a plate, and a rubber pad. They worked, but looked cheap. The second and better looking ones, had a stud, a screw plate, a rubber block, and a threaded loop. I never like the look though, the loop sticking up out of the bed, but I needed something.

So, one day I got an idea. Dangerous, no? I noticed a hole in the side of the middle stake pocket. I pulled out all my parts, drilled the hole for a 3/8" threaded rod (one of the parts). Inside of the pocket went the rubber block and the screw plate, the eye-bolt threaded through and pulled tight. The bolt passed all the way through the pocket so I could screw on the threaded loop. Using the studs, I was able to put a loop on the front and rear stake pockets too. Now I have 8 possible tie points that are below bed level. And if I remove them, only a few of us ever notice that the hole are slightly larger than factory. It works for me.

Re: bed tie downs, hooks...whatever

I'd like a pic of the Eraser??

my thought is to go see the race car guy have him put 2 90* bends in a piece of 1 3/4" roll cage pipe...so that the ends are even with the front and rear stake pockets..( this maybe hard to explain but you see them on newer trucks) then cut 3 plates that cover the stake pockets drill a hole in the center and weld a nut on the back side so that a bolt can be tightened from the bottom of the stake pocket (the bolts will be about 6" long) place the plates on the bed set pipe on the plates ( your going to need to have 1 short piece cut with the diameter of the pipe for the center pocket) and tack them...take the bolts out and finsh weld the platesont he pipe and paint it ( I'm going to paint it to match my steel rallies)

but hen again I was just loking for a pic to post and found these in 96" that may work well for our trucks and I wouldn't have to build it..and there pretty cheap since th materials to but it is $$3.50 a foot with the bends

Re: bed tie downs, hooks...whatever

OK. Here they are. I did not have enough light inside of the stake pocket for pictures. The middle pocket used the screw plate that I mentioned. The front and rear pockets used the butterfly anchor doohickeys. I may change out the rear cast loop for the steel eye bolt due to strength. you may notice that the plates overhang the pocket a bit. I intended to cut the plates flush, but never got a round tuit. For better or worse, it works.

As I remember, there was no hole in the rear pocket, just an indention. I drilled the indent. Still, who would know except us?

Re: bed tie downs, hooks...whatever

Here is what I did when I built the "Garden Truck". I found these tie downs at Home Depot. They are chrome plated cast metal of some sort. They were like 11.95 per pair and it took 4 pairs to do the job. I just used threaded rod to bolt them together. WES

Re: bed tie downs, hooks...whatever

I was thinking of using a 2" u bolt with a spring on the bottom of each side and a 2X2 1/8 in steel plate with 2 lock nuts.... that way when your not using it, the springs will hold tension on it so it wont be rattling when you drive. Just pull it up when you need to use it. Sort of like what some Goose Neck hitchs have for the safty chains.
