Anyone remember this?

This is on a 77 k5 I got a year or so back. Since then I have acquired my '74 Jimmy and have passed on the 77 to a good friend of mine and it is at his house. He knows he doesn't want the grill guard/stock bumper and we will building custom ones. As for now, thats pretty far down the list. What I am thinking is taking this one and taking it down to bare metal and updating it. Any suggestions? I know it's not really functional as a true grill guard but thought I would have some fun with it. What do you think? Leave it stock and rechrome or customize it? Thanks guys!

Re: Anyone remember this?

I have bought 3 parts trucks with these grill guards over the last few years, and all of them have went to the crusher.. lol. I dont think they look very good as is, and without some major modification they are pretty much pointless as far as being a useful brush guard. Maybe could make a pre-runner style lightbar out of it??? Kaysen

Re: Anyone remember this?

Honestly guys, I'm not sure what a prerunner light bar looks like! It is pretty much worthless as is, but I thought it would be fun to see what we could come up with to make a cool "grill guard" until I build one. I am going to dechrome it and paint it, should i do the same to the bumper or leave it chrome? (Mine is all bent to hell)

Re: Anyone remember this?

Hey,
That REALLY looks like a side rail on a hospital bed!!! It'd only be "fun to see" how quick it could be ripped off from the K5 and you can fab a cool one to replace it!!! Bumperettes on a K5 is a contradiction of terms, also. Until you can get a straight replacement for the bumper, it'll just look like you have worked your truck like it was meant to be. Remember, just having a rolling K5, you have one of the COOLEST rides anywhere.

Re: Anyone remember this?

I'd leave the bumperettes and get rid of the "brush guard" . That is the type of thing that causes more damage than it will prevent.

That's 'cause your from Texas. That style guard is great for nudging the livestock out of the way when your heading out to the back pasture.

If it were my I would hit it with some bedliner style material, and hang some big lights off of it.

I've seen bulls "brush" up against my blazer and I don't think that will hold up to a 1500 bull let alone a 150 lb white tail.

Re: Anyone remember this?

very true that it is pretty worthless and ugly. Starting to have second thoughts. Also the bumperettes were never part of the equation. I hate 'em. As for it being brush/cattle guard; I grew up on a cattle ranch and it wouldn't work for either.
