i really want to shave the drip rail moldings on my other cab, but a friend said i should be worried about water getting into the cab when it rains or when i wash it. so i'm curious what you guys say that have shaved rails. pics are always nice too

I have never had any issues with mine getting water in. I suppose if you were driving 80 mph during a heavy rain some water might get in but on a daily basis wont be a problem, After saying that if you have old worn out door seals that might change the whole thing, I have new seals and no problems.

I usually have no problems until I open the door on a rainy day. It'll wet you now and then.

I'm not worried about it either, As long as you have good door seals as LOW1TON mentioned you should have no issues.

Look at some of the new cars, The top of the door curves up into the roof line without drip rails.....

BTW LOW1TON.....That is one SWEEET lookin 1 TON !!!

I get hosed now and then even with drip rails.

I'm in the process of removing them from my 86 GMC. If you would like I can show you how I did it. I have always wanted to show off my handy work.

When the new body style came out in 73 the drip rails were optional......but when owners complained about water dripping on them they were made standard.Other than watching out for water when opening the door in wet weather you should have no problems.

I simply filled mine with bondo and it looked great, and i never had a problem with water getting in......and honestly if it's raining out, your gonna get wet anyway moving from truck to point B.

you will have problems /w/ your current door seals.
you will need to replace them.
I removed drips, water gets in while driving, but mainly siting. and when you open the door water will fall right on the carpet on the "hump". chevy put them on for a reason.

I use a 110 volt welder to fill the holes left by the screws. It is the best and eaisest way to do it. I'll post some photos on Friday, or Saturday night. I have to work and I don't have the photos ready.

hmm...i don't want excess water coming in, but it sounds like a trade off for good looks

i have new cab to door seals, and the seals around the tops of the door are pretty good. i'd love to get my doors to fit flush with the cab like LOW1TON's. that thing looks beautiful man. but you gotta share your secret on how you got those doors so tight!

No secret, just good factory doors and hinges and a straight truck never been in an accident. Thanks for comments on the truck.

This is the method I use to remove the rain/drip rail and fill the holes.
