Am I dreaming or is this possible

As some of you might now, I picked up a factory 2wd K5 a couple of months back with no title. Tried to get one and failed miserably. I am in the process of dismantling it to move the frame into my garage. Although I really want to re-body it under a 4wd K5, I doubt I am going to find one in this part of the country for a decent price that does not have seriour rust issues. What I was thinking about doing is finding a donor 73-80 cab and put it on the Blazer frame using the back half of the Blazer body, to make a little kick ass short bed.

I know it will be some work but, a good learning experience. I can go to the pick and pull and cut of the front part of a bed and get to work.............the floor pans on that 77 have no rust @ all. Just a thought that I have been turning over. A 5 to 5 1/2 short bed wood look sick I think. Works out because I have enough spare parts for (1) 77-80 front clip with inside release.....................

1. I personally feel it would look awkward and stubby.

2. It would be less work to fix the rust on a donor 4x4 tub.

yeah prolly be way sicker and easier to just make it a unibody truck, maybe slope the back window a bit so the sides look more like a elcamino. patch panels are cheap to fx the rust unless its around the windshield and then MAYBE the pckup cab thing. i agree with USSkoval tho, would look akward with the gap in the middle, the bed would look way too short.

how about getting a donor body from somewhere that is easier to find a rust free k5? when one is found then make a road trip out of it.

you could leave the top part of the cab and make a roll bar styled part to finish off the end of the cab, or you can chop it all off, but leave the windshied and door vent windows and cut off the top part off the doors...

that way you could still roll up your windows.

I vote put the cab on there and make a flat bed to cover the rear of the frame...that way no chopping on a bed, and you get the extra clearance of having the flat bed...

All valid points. I occasionally see some locally for $ 500 or so. I guess I will keep my eyes open. With the limited space in my shop (1 car garage), it would be easier to go the cab route. I guess we will wait and see what comes up in the next few months

pay a fee with a bill of sale, they register in another state in your name and send you proper papers and plates with papers that they are not a title state
then you register in you state

It would have to be '78 or newer though since '77 VIN tag is still in the door jamb.

Thanks guys we will see. I think my current blazer tub may be too far gone to fix. there's a small hole underneath the windshield on the passenger side the size of a quarter. Sitting outside for 12+ years has rotted out the entire door jamb (where the hinges attach to the cab) you can envision the damage......donor truck cab is looking better and better..........87 Duallyburb just picked up a 79' lwb to go with the 82' swb I found for him. We may have to talk business

if you are going to do the shorty bed thing why not make it a utility/trail vehicle..
like a tube frame for teh back half...
that way you have a small utility section for a fuelcell trail gear etc ...

Here are some of the rust issues on the 77' 2wd. This is why I don't think it is worth it to shell out $ 425 to get a title from ITS and spend counts hours cutting and patching

Well worth the $ 200 I paid for the truck in parts alone!!!!!!! Low back buckets, console, full gauge cluster, etc. Going to use some of this stuff on the next square body I get my hands on for a 73-80 front clip swap. I am going to start cutting it up when the weather gets better and move the frame into my shop to get it ready for a futue cab or tub swap. Surpisingly, what you see is the worst of it. The floor pans are mint as is the frame.

I actually kind of like the Super Short Bed... They are also called Trazers (truck/blazer). If you do it up real nice with a good stance and wheels/tires I bet it would look good. In the 4x4 world they typically have a flatbed with a truck cab...
