That's your cruise control transducer, Without it your cruise won't function.

yeah its your speedo, on cable goes from your cluster to that piece, and that piece to your tranny. if you remove it you might have to get a new speedo cable

So is it safe to assume the same if you go down hill?, provided you don't hit the brakes first and activate the vacuum disengagement.

Yes,unless the hill/mountian has a ski ramp style drop. LOL

BTW...I added a cruise unit from Dakota Digital on my truck, LOVE it, especially on long trips.

Re: Identify this part/its purpose

That is an after market, I believe, it might work if you hook up the missing vacumm line that is off in the picture. There should be some parts on the carb linkage too, it looks very similar to the one I took off my truck after I bought it. Mine even had a sensor on the drive shaft.

Does the Dakota unit use a similar in/out connection for the speedo cable or do you have to add some other modification?

Re: Identify this part/its purpose

Sorry Jeff, but that is factory. i highly doubt it will work even with the vaccum line hooked up. they are known to go bad and not hold a steady mph. there is a rubber diaphram inside that goes bad over time.

Opps, sorry for the misdirection, mine looked similar but was for sure after market.

Re: Identify this part/its purpose

Is it worth trying to fix the factory CC? Mine tries to work but cannot hold the mph. It slowly decels.

Re: Identify this part/its purpose

i wouldnt... i replaced mine twice. even when it was working it left alot to be desired. if i was to do it again i'd just use the dakota one like Bryan(S10Fan).
