fuel sender differences
Fuel sender units are listed as for manual or automatic transmission. What is the difference between these fuel senders? I'm trying to figure how the type of transmission is relevant. My '72 has automatic transmission. Can I use a manual transmission fuel sender?
thanks for your help. |

Re: fuel sender differences
Well I am curious as well.
When I was working on my 69 GMC I tried swapping out a fuel sending unit from another truck and found that the fuel line was a different size. The truck is was going into was a 3 on the tree and I can't remember which parts truck I attempted to take another off of as I have one automatic and one 4 speed manual.

Re: fuel sender differences
I am not sure why there is a difference between the automatic and manual transmissions.
I know there is a difference in the 6 cylinder and V-8s because of need for differnent flow required. I am sure some one else more knowledgeable than me wil chime in. Danny

Re: fuel sender differences
It appears from the catalogs I have looked at that the manual vs auto is only for 1972.

Re: fuel sender differences
The canister is a 72 only thing. That sender is a single year only unit. Don't know about the auto vs. manual though.

Re: fuel sender differences
Hmmm, my '71, which seems to be stock, has a cannister just outside and under the battery tray.
So it makes me think that some '71s also had the closed system. Danny

Re: fuel sender differences
darn.....i am putting a 4 barrel q-jet in my 72 burb 3/4 ton with the stock 307. i am hoping that i can get away with the 5/16 fuel line at least until i swap in my 406sbc which will suck a lot more air and gas.

Re: fuel sender differences
Maybe it was a CA truck. Does the sender have two lines coming out of it? If so and you look up the part # it will be a 72 only
