58 tow truck questions...
Short story: found this old tow truck that i am going to guess is a 58-59. (sorry no pics) In the grill it has an emblem that reads "370" On the fenders it has a gmc emblem and below that a V-8 emblem. It had an interesting sun tach in the dash with a box under the hood to match up with the tach. This also had a big back window. There is a stainless strip around the side windows and above and below the rear window. I assume these are worth getting? Any ideas on values and if these parts would work on a regular pickup? These are new to me, i am into the 67-72... Thanks, Eric

Re: 58 tow truck questions...
The gauge panel you have will work for 55-59 GMC and the fender badging is for 58-59 GMC. You could get a pretty penny for the tach, seen them go on Ebay for $100-$300 depending on condition and if it works. The badges you have look like they are in rough shape, probably not worth restoring. Might be worth something to someone though.
Is this truck at a junk yard or something? If you can get pics of the whole truck I bet you people will be hitting you up for parts left and right. If you can get more parts does it have the core support? If so I may be interested in the top cap of the core support. I just have to check to see if 58-59 will work on a 57. |

Here was one that didn't sell and didn't have the transmitter.

Re: 58 tow truck questions...
addicted, so it looks to be a 58-59 then. It is at a local recycler here. The body is shot. I pulled the fender up to get 2 of the emblems off. There wasn't much holding it. It is quite complete yet. The tach is similar to the one from e-bay but still different. The badges are in rough shape, but i figured it would help narrow down the year. Probably not very many had V-8s i am guessing? Is the large back window uncommon also? I did get the stainless around the side windows and i grabbed the pair of stainless vent shades. Not sure when i can make it back, or if it will still be there. Thanks for the info so far, Eric

If you were able to get that for me I'd love you forever! Is the stainless trim in good shape? If so that sells for $300-$500. As for the vent shades.... are you talking about the ones over the doors? Or over the windshield. I think you are talking about the doors because of your pluralization. Those are an add on, if in good shape they would be worth something, never really seen them on Ebay so I can't quite quote it. I had a set that came on one of my GMC's but I just trashed them thinking they weren't worth much. |

Re: 58 tow truck questions...
I can try to get out there this week and get some pics of it.
The stainless i took off that wraped around the side windows and above and below the rear glass all looks pretty nice. You are correct about the vent visors over the side windows. There were 2 screws in each one, but i think they were made like that. I will try to look at the roof, but i don't know how we could ship it easily. Eric

Re: 58 tow truck questions...
I don't need the roof panel. Just the upper half of the back of the cab if it is a big window. I think that is something that could be shipped Greyhound.

Re: 58 tow truck questions...
Made it out to the yard again and got some pics. A pic of the stainless i pulled, and the cab that has rust holes on the inside. I am adding a few big truck pics on the 67-72 board also.

Re: 58 tow truck questions...
That thing is a beaut! I know of a couple people looking for the lower section of the back of the cab. Also, what kind of shape are the doors in? If they are repairable you could sell those on Ebay or Craigslist. I've seen the doors go for $200-$400 a piece.
I am still very interested in the upper half of the back of the cab and the back window if it is reasonable shape. Let me know! I'd love to finish my cab weld and melds.

Re: 58 tow truck questions...
Also, that trim looks to be in excellent shape. That will be a very easy sale.

Re: 58 tow truck questions...
I saw the pics in your other thread. The grill off this truck looks to be in decent shape too. I see the dent on the driver's side but that should be an easy repair. I'd snag that and sell it too!

Re: 58 tow truck questions...
That GMC heater control could be worth something to a GMC guy who wants to install a heater. If the rest of the heater is there, you might want to consider that also.
Another part intrigues me......that spotlight. Does it look like it was an aftermarket unit that somebody installed, or does it look factory? It looks like it's missing parts, but somebody who's doing a resto that likes the factory options might be interested in what's left. The GMCs had some really unique options, so if there's something that looks odd, make sure you post up and ask the question. There's lots of gold in them 'thar wrecking yards!!!! Wrecking yard prospecting is a hobby of mine. |

Re: 58 tow truck questions...
Thanks for the help with parts. Not sure if it is worth getting the roof parts or not, but will look things over again if i can make it out there before it is gone...
