Removing glovebox lock

What's the trick to remove the glovebox latch on 79-80? I see small hole in knob. Need to remove it for painting.

Thanks

Re: Removing glovebox lock

Hope this helps...............

For key lock latches:
Lock the latch with the glove box open.
Use a straightened paperclip in the top hole (the hole pointing at the passenger seat with the glove box open) to push and release each of the tumblers one by one as you slowly remove the cylinder assembly.

For non-key lock latches:
Latch the latch with the glove box door open.
Use a straightened paperclip in the top hole (the hole pointing at the passenger door with the glove box open) to push and release each of the tumblers one by one as you slowly remove the cylinder assembly.

Unscrew the round piece from the outer side of the glove box door.

Re: Removing glovebox lock

Thanks for the details. What a pain! I might just mask the chrome knob and paint it.
