C-Notch Details

This is the deal guys...

I lowered my 77LWB. Front is running 2.5 drop spindles with 3inch lowering springs and the rear has a flipkit. I'm looking at a 5.5/5 drop. Not too easy on the eyes. I want to get the rear another 2 inches down. I already have the shackels that will give me those 2inches I'm looking for but unfortunately as of now I only have a 2inch clearence between my frame and rear diff. Having said that time for the c-notch.

I tried searching the threads for some extensive info, without luck. My question is how do I cut the frame for a bolt in c-notch? I don't feel like paying a shop 300 bucks to get it done. If someone has details for me (what's the best way, tool to cut the frame with? What's the best way to drill the holes into the frame for the bolts on the c-notch?) Please chime in.

.02 greatly appreciated.

Re: C-Notch Details

Thank you for the reply, funny, spent hrs trying to find something on c-notching but have not checked the faq section haha.

Even better, if someone is located in SoCal around the LA LB area and has expirience doing this, let me know. I rather have one of the members do the job for me and pay them then a shop.

Re: C-Notch Details

I cut mine with a angle grinder with a cut-off wheel. The c-notch plate covers up any over-shots.

Re: C-Notch Details

if you have access to a reciprocating saw (tiger saw) I believe it would go easier. grind or hand file all the sharp edges off, then apply a good coat of rust preventative paint.

Re: C-Notch Details

i did mine with a 5" grinder and a drill. bought the notches from cpp, came with instructions for how to line everything up. once i had the outline traced on the frame i set the trailing arms and rear end in place just to double check that everything was lined up and then i started cutting.

Re: C-Notch Details

Alright guys I just finished the cnotch install, I will post pics soon. Now I have a problem. I'm running shock extenders with oem shocks, they still bottom out while simply sitting in the drive way. I'm running a flipkit with 2inch shackels which is a 7in drop...

What's next, drop shocks with extenders or is there another way? I thought with a 7inch drop all I needed was shock extenders but I guess I was wrong...

Quick solution would be greatly appreciated. I need to solve this tomorrow.

Re: C-Notch Details

Shorter shocks.
The shock extenders help with the angle of the shock,... as well as allowing you to use the stock oem shocks,... with a flip kit.
You have added the drop shackle to your suspension,... so shorter drop shocks are in order.

Drop shocks with extenders???

Anybody ever ran different shocks from another car/truck that are shorter? Not trying to be cheap just trying to figure out all my options.

Re: C-Notch Details

I wish I had the time to wait and order the shocks, the bed is off the truck and unfortunately she's my dd besided my motorcycle. The weather here in Los Angeles isn't that great yet to rely on my bike. I need some shocks by the end of tomorrow.

If any of you guys in SoCal has some for sale, knows about a shop around LA that carries them or maybe knows of another car/truck shock I can use id appreciate the info.

Re: C-Notch Details

Don't know if you are considering Monroe shocks, may be more available. You can look up the original shock then look up a shorter one with the same mount.

Here is a link to a Monroe catalog dimensions and mounting
