1972 blazer rear link?!?!?

Hi guys,

I have a 72 blazer with a 6" lift with 35" tires. My question to you is... has anyone linked a 4x4 blazer set up to run 35's or 36's and if so can you share any helpful information?

Thank you,

Andrew

I think you'll probably have better luck searching pirate4x4.com... Be carefull over there... They are ruthless with "newb" questions, so I highly emphasize the word search.

I would post in pirates noob section. But, I don't really think anyone has done it that I recall.

IF you do it I recommend a 4link calculator. And running double tri and it should be very easy to set up. Easier if you run some numbers thru the calc.

Re: 1972 blazer rear link?!?!?

Whats your goal for the linking a show or offroad truck?

IF you link the blazer you should get everything before you start. The coilover if you go that route should most likey be around 8-10in of travel. But too be sure since you have the leafs on it now you could get a rough idea of where the shock hoops would go and themeasurement of how long the shocks need to be at ride. Then firgure 4in uptravel and 4 down at least.

Re: 1972 blazer rear link?!?!?

The blazer will be built to perform, not to show. I have 2.5" king coilovers with throw of 14". Since the Blazer already has a 6" lift I have started measuring and gathering specs. I'm not going to race or try to jump the Blazer so instead of having the shocks mount mid way on the links I was thinking over the axel. The purpose of the linking is to have something different and suspension that will perform. So any help would be great!
Thanks,

Andrew

Re: 1972 blazer rear link?!?!?

Do you have the shocks yet?

One thing I was thinking if you keep the axles in the stock position, you may run into clearance issues with the brake booster and steering shaft. But should be able to avoid them if you mount the shock out far enough.

With the 14 in travel shocks I don't think you will be able to get 4in up travel, and stay at about 6in lift. Might need around a 10-12 in travel, maybe even a 8, for the front only. But if you have your shocks work with what you got.

You most likely will need to run a 3 link with a panhard/track bar. And you will need crossover steering. With out a track/panhard bar your steering will wander a little even with a double tri 4link, unless you go full hydro, Which I understand to be illegal on the road.

When you start the build start a thread, and add some pics.

Edit: I didn't realize you had the shocks when I first sent it. I copied this to here so others can maybe get some useful information.

Mounting the shocks on the shocks over the axle is needed on the front, For safety I can't remember anyone running them on the links and because of the room I suppose. On the rear I see that could be and option but you would have to mount the upper shock mounts really high, and would take a lot more work.
