Stack...or not to stack - That is the question!
Now that I've got off my big ol lazy butt and I got my dually running, I'm going to need an exhaust system. Truthfully, I really rather run it all the way over the axle, and out behind the wheels on the passenger. However, here's my dilemma: The diesel was to too wide with the turbo to go inside the frame. I'm going to have to run outside the passenger side frame rail. Since the leaf springs would be in the way, I can't easily go over axle. This leaves my options to either running it out in front the passenger rear wheel, or running a stack. When I think of stacks, my first thought is redneck, but they have really become popular with the diesel truck crowd. I'm undecided whether I like them or not. The exhaust exiting in front of the wheel would look and sound great, but people have told me that the diesel soot makes it impossible to keep the passenger side rear wheels and tires and bedside clean (especially the wheels). If I go stack, I'm pretty sure i'd want to keep it subtle (something like the pic below) . Maybe a satin black stack with an old school flapper, and not too high. I need help deciding! Give me your thoughts.

Re: Stack...or not to stack - That is the question!
I'd say no to the stack in the bed. I have another suggestion for you though. A guy on the 99-06 forum transplanted a cummins into his bodydropped and bagged regular cab, and to simplify the exhaust he is running a hood stack here is a link to the build (look about 2/3 of the way down the page, and I'm to tired to post the images). He cut the cowl then welded in a tube for the tip to run through, the tip will only extend about 3" above the cowl. Not sure if I like it or not, but it's an option......bet it would have a wicked turbo whistle to it though

Re: Stack...or not to stack - That is the question!
I agree...no stacks. If it were a C50 or something, I would say you might be able to get away with some dual stacks. That might look good. But I would just run it down the passenger side and dump it in front of your inside dual but dump it slightly down, not out. I think with your duals on there you wouldn't have a problem of making a mess with your outside rim, just maybe your inside. Paint your truck flat black and no one will see the soot!

Gotta vote no, everytime I see them in anything other than a semi they just look bad. Your truck is too cool to use stacks.

Re: Stack...or not to stack - That is the question!
I vote FOR the stacks. They would look really cool on your truck. It just has to be 2 chrome stacks with the curved tips. Turn them with the tips at a 45* angle from being straight back. But then again, I'm the guy that put a stack on a Jeep. lol.

That's a good point I hadn't thought of. I really don't care too much about the inside wheel, but the thought of a black, sooty outside is what had me considering the stack in the first place.

Re: Stack...or not to stack - That is the question!
im a stack fan myself and because your truck is HD and Diesel id do a simple 3-4" twin stack setup.... with slash cuts and dont go over the cab they look dumb when they stick above the cab.... and black stacks would be better less chrome to polish subtle and not too over the top....
:EDIT: here is what im talkin about.... i also brightened up the pic and leveled out the truck
