column swap problem

My truck was originally an auto truck. PO changed it to a manual trans but left the auto column in. I just traded my column to another board member for his manual shift column and everything is good except my truck won't start. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the neutral safety switch as my auto column had a place to plug it in but the new column does not.

My question is where do I plug in the two plugs that used to go to the column? could I just buy a new neutral safety switch and plug in the two plugs?

u could buy a switch to plug in or u could just hard wire the plug so the connection goes thru with out having a switch. but it will always be in a "neutral" stage so as long as the clutch is in ull be ok.

A new switch couldn't be that high. Hard wiring will work and be just fine but I always worry about sombody bumping it over in gear. Would a saftey switch from an S-10 work? recon.

This is just going to be a temporary fix. I'm swapping in a nv3500 and when I do I'll make it right. I just needed to get an easy fix for now as I want to drive the truck. Thanks guys. I'll get the part tomorrow. The only thing that sucks is that controls my back up lights too so I don't have those either but not near as important as the truck starting.

if it's only a temp just hard wire it until u get what u need. atleast u know it starts an everything else works.

X2. IIRC, just jumper the plug with the green wires.

Yep make a jumper wire three or four inches long with a male spade on each end and plug it in. If you were to put longer wires on it and a hidden toggle switch you would have a nice setup where you could flip the switch and it wouldn't start or put a push button under the dash so that you have to turn the key and push the pushbutton at the same time. The other plug is for the backup lights and you will have to either rig a switch to make them work or do without.

i dont think manual tranny trucks are equipped with NSS

Yup. A 4-speed truck will engage starter in any gear. Just remember to keep your clutch foot in wnenever hitting starter. Otherwise there will be gnashing of teeth, and maybe weeping if you have to fix something.

problem solved! thanks guys. I made a simple jumper wire with the two ends, plugged it in and the truck fired right up
