Dropmember Guys,... 2-Piece Driveshafts?
Who's got there Dropmember equipped trucks on the road with a 2-piece driveshaft.
I need to assemble a totally new one or cut down a oem longer version. What's everyone using? Pics and tube diameters would be great also. I have the PB trailing arm crossmember with the carrier bearing support.

Re: Dropmember Guys,... 2-Piece Driveshafts?
I used a carrier bearing from carquest part#hb88107a not sure what year truck it is from. I took the drive shaft shop my stock 2 piece and they built a whole new front section out of 2 3/4 tube to use that carrier bearing which is bigger ID. They also installed a slip yoke between the 2 pieces and shortened the stock rear section to fit. Hope that helps!

Re: Dropmember Guys,... 2-Piece Driveshafts?
There will be some specific mesurements that the Drive-line shop will ask for before building the shaft, make sure you write down the correct meausrements and they sign off on a copy (that way they are responsible if the shaft isn't to your specs). The drive-train will need to be installed and the suspension set to ride height when taking these measurements. I will be doing a write-up on Old Aux when we put the shaft in!

Re: Dropmember Guys,... 2-Piece Driveshafts?
Yeah.. I am also doing a 2-piece, and would like to see some. I guess I am going to just take it and the truck over to get installed. Is a 2-piece a good option?

But the carrier bearing is different. The reason to use a 2-piece driveshaft in a Dropmember equipped 67-72 truck,... is to eliminate having to tunnel the floor and notch the back of the cab.

Re: Dropmember Guys,... 2-Piece Driveshafts?
i understand the reasoning for using it, but if there is one that came stock is it possible to bolt it on and just get a different carrier bearing and not have to mess with having a new one built? (asking from a person with very little money standpoint) lol

Re: Dropmember Guys,... 2-Piece Driveshafts?
I used a shaft from a 87 suburban. The front was the perfect length,(built a new crossmember)for the carrier.Sets the carrier at just below the bottom of the cab rear wall.Has 32 spined shaft too.then I just cut the weld off of the rear of the long rear shaft, knocked out the plug(yoke)and shortened it to fit.Perfect.Dont forget to mark the centerline of your shaft before you cut.the yokes have to be lined up perfect or it will vibrate.Go get it balanced and your done.

Re: Dropmember Guys,... 2-Piece Driveshafts?
Bump to see if anyone has updates or p/n's. I'd like to order stuff now vs. waiting to the last minute if possible.

Re: Dropmember Guys,... 2-Piece Driveshafts?
i used the cpp rear slip shaft and then had my front shaft shortened and had an aluminum block made for my carrier bearing to space it up

Re: Dropmember Guys,... 2-Piece Driveshafts?
I was going to have a whole new one made. I called the driveline shop and it was pretty cheap for a whole new one. I planned to use the CPP bearing, too.

Re: Dropmember Guys,... 2-Piece Driveshafts?
I use to manage a driveling shop in san jose. The best way to measure is, install trans yoke so its 1/2 to 3/4" from being bottomed out. From there you measure from center of trans u-joint to center of carrier bearing mounting holes. From there I would measure center of carrier bearing hole to center of rear end yoke (flat side of end yoke). I would take measurement at ride height and layed out. That way the driveling shop can get your slip and stub travel perfect. Hope this makes sence, hard typing on the phone sometimes.

Re: Dropmember Guys,... 2-Piece Driveshafts?
Also I would only use spicer driveling parts! They are the best and I have used them all. Spicer # 5-785 1310 solid non Greasable u-joints are the best! Most common carrier bearing for 1310 is spicer # 211175x that should have the same mounting hole as nates c-bearing crossmember. Hard to remember all the #. My buddy runs a driveling shop in sparks NV and I can get part # if needed
