Flip Kit help

I've finally realized I'm not going to find a flip kit used for a decent price anymore so I need a little help. I've been eyeing these kits and I'm not sure which one to get. I've got a 83 chevy that's in dieing need of a drop. Can someone help me out on which kit to get? I don't want to spend over 150 bucks and I've convenience myself I could make my own notch. Let me know if anyone has any DIY plans for notchs or flip brackets for these old pickups. Also are new U bolts required for a flip? I feel like I could take 3/4 inch steel, set it in a vise and heat it up and hammer it the way I want to. Has anyone tried this? Anyway here's the links to what I've found...

Re: Flip Kit help

I've got the last kit too. I never installed a notch on mine but the u bolts were needed on my truck. Check the site vendors and over in the suspension section home made notches. I believe I remember seeing a few.

Re: Flip Kit help

NORCAL SS has a flyer in the suspension section. Say he can beat any advertised price on DJM and Belltech kits. Give him a try.

Re: Flip Kit help

If you have the confidence you seem to have, here is how I flipped mine. I bought new spring perches for 3" axle tube from Summit for $15 or so. (They are also available at your local parts or trailer supply stores.) Cut the old perches off and lined everything up and welded it in. I went into a little more detail and there are pics in my build thread. (Link in my signature)

Re: Flip Kit help

the first time i flipped an axel in high school my uncle and i just cut the perches off the axel rolled the axel over measured were they needed to be and welded em on. Its been awhile but i know we reused everything. i didnt spend a dime for it. Now im not saying that is the right way to do it lol. jsut how we did it back then. we also pulled all but 3 leaves out of the pack and called it a day. Rode like crap but for a 17 yo kid it was perfect.

No but I did have to do some grinding down on the caliper and a small part on the drop spindle that hit the rim

Re: Flip Kit help

thanks... I know I should've swap the oil pan b4 my 5.3 install... oh well... I was going to do air bags but decided that a static drop will better suit my needs,,, I am planning on doing a 3"spindle with a 2" spring up front, and on the rear a flip kit and if I decide later I can cut some off the 2" spring and add shackles and c notch on the rear....

Here you go. If you have access to a welder, this is the least expensive way. Free to probably less than $20. Nothing wrong with using one of the kits, but this is how I would do it on my own truck.
