Re: cam choices?

Are you aware that you can't "just replace" a bad cam and put it back together? The entire engine must be removed, stripped and cleaned. The particles from the "flat cam" and the mating lifter will have spread through everything. The oil filter cannot handle that kind of volume and will begin to by-pass.
If you just R&R the cam and lifters, it will fail again.

I've never heard it described quite like that. I would recommend changing to a roller cam setup. Today's oils don't have the zinc content that flat tappet cams need. If you do go back with a flat tappet cam, be sure to use zinc additive.

Re: cam choices?

if i'm gonna change out a valvetrain......it will be full roller and on a truck it will be nothing but an RV grind. i want smooth idle, tons of vacuum for the brakes and awesome throttle response and max low end torque so i can enjoy it on the street. in a "car" not towing anything, something a bit more peaky would be fun!
