Spid sticker removal qeustion

Ok, how do you do it the best way to preserve it. Im repainting my truck and am using a different glove box door. And I want to remove the sticker from the new glove box door so i can have a new one made and put it on and also I want to save the old one but not keep it on the old door. Heat it with a blow dryer? Thanks guys!

Personally I would just find another door to paint and apply the new sticker to and just leave that one as is. I don’t think you will get it off in one piece.

I'm thinking that a reproduction sticker (there's someone on the board who does them) would be the best route. If you are trying to save yours and also plan to install a new door, I'd think that keeping the old one would be okay.....kind of a before part of the after effect of the body/paint.

My plan is also to replace my SPID sticker when my truck is done, but I'm just going to keep the inside of the door like it is. Actually, it ain't bad, but it wouldn't make the cut for show-quality.

Why not take a digital picture of it before attempting to remove it? This way you can e-mail it to the reproduction guy. Just a thought. BTW the site is www.outintheshop.com. Cheers.

Ok, I will be saving the original spid. But I won't be reusing it. I just want to keep it and laminate it or something. I am using a different glove box door than original. I am going to have a new sticker made for me. But I would rather just put the new sticker on the new door without the old sticker on it. And I don't want to be saving the old sticker stuck to the old door. I would like to have the sticker in a scrapbook of pics of my restoration. And the glovebox door is kinda large for my scrapbook project. I hope you get where I'm going.

Just want to know how to get the sticker off without destroying it or the glove-box door.

I don't know of any way to remove them and save them. I know what you want to do, but not sure how you can do it.

I have had pretty good luck removing them with a heat gun and razor blade. Start at a corner, heat it up with the gun and get under the label with the razor blade. Use a little heat and work slowly/carefully and you should be able to pull the label up in one piece.

I should add that if it doesn't have the clear cover over the label it probably won't come up as good.

+1 for heat gun and razor blade. Take your time, and since your not reusing the door, better to dig into the door than slice the sticker with the razor blade. And take your time. I've used this method with alot of emblem replacements I've done at the dealer. Have I mentioned to take your time yet? Good luck

I would just pay the 25 and get Chip to do a new one! They are great

use a dremmel tool and cut it out and then keep the spid and one layer of metal. That should work for your scrap book. just my opinion.

Well done! You have patience my friend, just how long did it take you?

I always try the heat gun first, but another way I have found is to spray on some WD-40 and let it soak. Once removed, put it in a warm safe place for a few months, it will eventually dry, just a bit darker, and it works ok unless you were to reuse it. The orange goo remover works in the same way but seems to have a lot more oil in it and doesn't feel like it ever drys.
I pulled a few this way so I could scan them on a flatbed scanner and then fix 'em up in Photoshop.

Only about 15 minutes. Kinda surprised how good it went with advise like cutting out the metal to preserve the sticker.
