Rope gasket on transmission floor hump - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

When I pulled the transmission floor hump I found a rope type gasket that is completely oil soaked.

Is this a part that is available, or should I just buy some similar sized rope and use that?

Call me a brute, but I just used some smurf goo on mine. (Silicone)

I just used the 3M black tar-like calk (sp?) strips my HVAC buddy gave me. I think they use it to seal up combustion chambers on forced air furnaces.

It was a bear to get to stick right but I wouldn't go without something to seal it up.

Yukon Jack I've been kind of wonderiing about this myself as I am planning to switch my truck over to a standard trans with high hump. I looked at the factory assembly manual, and it isn't much help, although it does mention sealing compound (5/16"bead) for attaching the hump to the floor, I seem to remember someone on here mentioning how to do this some time ago. You should have your answer before sundown anyway. I'll be watching for this one too. lpaine

We glue the round rubber strip material like is used on the metal door panels using 3M trim Cement. Clamps are used to hold the rubber in place while it drys. Before installing we put the strip caulk in place,(3M) and install the hump.
