I have a chance to buy a motor/trans out of 96 corvette. Whats involved in putting this into a 72 2wd?

after doing some research here it looks like it might be a little too complicated and time consuming. Going to stick with carb setup.

The motor mounts are the same as what came in your truck. I personally do not care for that engine. The ignition system is driven off of the cam, and IF, you have a problem with the Dizzy, it requires a water pump removal, and a very expensive diizzy replacement. If the engine is cheap, and you have the ability to wire it, well I guess it would be ok. Just not my cup off tea

fuel injection is the way to go with crazy gas prices, and also it will automatically adjust to changes in altitude so you can go on cross country trips!

Is the '96 vette an auto or 6 speed. If it's 6 speed, it's not an LT1, it's an LT4, 330 horse! Love the LT4's!

Funny, I did an LT1/4L60E swap in my wifes jeep. Very easy swap, hands down easier than an LS swap. Oil pan and motor mounts and exhaust are still conventional style so it doesn't complicate things.
Runs pretty decent too, 13.40's at 103 mph on 32" bfg all terrains and 6 inches of lift

Keeping the fuel injection is cake too. I used Howell Engine Management systems for mine. They supply the computer with a custom tune specifically for the application, and a custom made harness also specifically made for what you are doing. Everything is labeled. Literally plug and play. Fired right up on the first hit of the key.

Nothing really wrong with LT motor's, just have to know your way around them. You don't have to keep the opti either. There are several kits on the market to convert them several ways, even coil-per-ignition setups. If you wish for a carb, you can even switch it over to a conventional distributor if you like. All the provisions are already there, and a plug is made for the front timing cover once the opti is removed. Really makes the engine just as simple as any Gen 1 sbc.

Wouldn't know it by looking at it, a real sleeper.

Thanks, I know it's a blazer site, but I couldn't resist when questions popped up on an LT1 swap

That was a frame off job that took a while and spent way too much money. There was a ton of custom stuff I fabbed throughout the scrambler,,,,but the drivetrain conversion is straight forward and very simple.

Unlike the LS swap I'm gearing up for on our 72 blazer. That's going to be rather involved and quite honestly, I'm mentally preparing myself for it to be a pain.

I'm into everything though.

I've got a complete photo album from the build start to finish. We did a candy brandywine paint with ghost flames on the hood. Rebuilt the LT1 but it's internally stock, just .030 over. 4L60E with a dana 300 transfer case and 4.10 gears.
If you have an email I can send you pics and details that way, rather than clog up the blazer site with, dare I say it, Jeep info??
