01 Z71 Silverado service engine soon
hi all im a new member to these forums but i have been following them for a while.
my silverado just started showing a steady "service engine soon" light. i looked it up in the manual and said it has something to do with the exhaust system. is there any possibility that it is the o2 sensors? the truck only has 60,XXX on it, we've had it since 2005 and it has never given us any problems before. unfortuanatley, i am currently in central utah and have no access to an obd2 reader to figure out exactly what codes it is throwing until i return home. i know that at the worst, if it is just bad o2 sensors, the engine wont perform as well and get bad gas mileage. is this a problem that can wait until i get home to the bay area? |

That light doesn't mean it's definatley an exhaust problem. If you can scan it and get codes that's your best bet. It can range anywhere from a loose gas cap to major problems. Since it's steady and not flashing continued driving is possible but not recommended.

i checked that first and the light stayed on. i made it back home to california so im not worried as much now, but my dad has an obd2 reader he'll pull out tomarrow to check the codes. i talked to him last night when i was in elko, nevada and he said it was probally time to change the oil, but it hasnt been that long since i changed it and the truck has mostly sat since i did change it |
