very new to lowering.....

lets get the basic description of my truck out first, 84 c-10 swb sbc with 265/65's with 3.75 inch back spacing, my truck has been lowered the wrong way and handles like a lumbering beast and i hate it, i really need a kit (spindles and coils and everything else for the front) and information to help me find out how they have lowered the rear (if at all) and what drop y'all think looks good (please include pictures) with the suspension parts to match i'm doing research right now and its confusing the crap outta me

also i don't want to change anything but the spindles and coils and maybe a flipkit? if it requires welding cutting or jerryrigging i don't want any part of it i just want a bolt out and bolt in kit

will bellthech partnumber 704 work for what i'm looking for? will i be able to run a heavy duty monroe shock that was made for a "lowered c-10" i'll ty to find the box they came in
thanks guys

Re: very new to lowering.....

Welcome to the board!
I suggest you look around in the 73-87 section at other trucks, to see which drop you like.
I prefer a 4/6 or 5/7 drop.

Summit Racing has good prices on Belltech products.
(Member Norcal SS is also a suspension dealer here on the board. You might send him a PM. He is quoting tha he has the best prices on DJM and Belltech products)
Flip kits are the easiest way to lower the rear,... in my opinion.

Do you plan on changing wheels?
What kind of budget are you talking about?
Good drop shocks are a must for lowered trucks.
Also a sway bar on the front will make it handle nice for very little money.

Can you post pics of your front and rear suspension?
Maybe we can determine what is wrong with your truck now.

Re: very new to lowering.....

i want to be able to keep at least a 265 on the front and maybe go wider on the back the springs were cut on the front and i don't know if its been lowered at all in the back right now it has the tires mentioned above and the wheels as well i don't plan on changing them any time soon either, the kit i posted was a 3/4 drop i'm assuning its that drop from the stock would that rub? the backspacing is 3.75

any perticular reason you like the 4/6 and 5/7 drop? are there advantages to it? i already smack the bump stops on speed bumps and dips in the road and i find it really embarrassing

Re: very new to lowering.....

I don't think you can go as low as a 4/6 or 5/7 with your 265's.
I assume your wheels are 15x8's? The backspacing up front might also limit you to a 3/4 drop.
The bumpstops (front and rear) can be removed or trimmed to eliminate hitting them.

If you can post up some pics,... that would help alot.
I like the 5/7 drop,... because I like my trucks low.
A 4/6 is perfect for everyday driving.

Re: very new to lowering.....

okay i know i started with high expectations but would a set of djm 3 inch lowering springs and a thicker sway bar do the trick in the front or will it still handle worse than an elaphant? i know this is on the cheap but i'm redoing the enigine too and i'm on a budget

3" springs will work for dropping the front but the ride is not going to be as good as 1" spring drop & a set of spindles. I would spend money on spindles before dropped springs.

A HD sway-bar will compliment either choice (spindles, springs, or the combo of both).

Re: very new to lowering.....

Take a look at what Tony (NorCalSS) is offering in the Vendors Marketplace right now-LINK As the others have suggested, go with spindles first. It sounds like your stock springs were trashed by the PO, so replace them with fresh stockers cut a coil for a slight drop.

Re: very new to lowering.....

thanks for that info thats really useful! um.. so i figured out how they lowered it... they cut some coils off the front and the back has only 3 leafs on it; the main, the really short one and the one in the middle. my plan is to replace the cut coils with some good stiff lowering springs and lowering shocks and put my brand new monroes on the back (if they fit...) are the mounting bolts the same? i will measure the lengths tomorrow if the bolts are the same.

Re: very new to lowering.....

does anyone have height measurements of stock compared to a three inch drop coil i need to know if my tires will clear as they sit under the fender lip now but since it is lowered i need to find out how much further down it will go if i need 2 inch or 3 inch springs so as for now i can keep my wheels and tires until i do drop spindles
