Can this be done??

Hey there all, I have a 68 3/4ton swb 350ci with a four speed muncie and np205 transfer case. My thoughts and questions are I would love to have a five speed tranny. with the 4:10 gears it does not to bad on fuel and rpms mostly due to the fact that I drive her with respect and don't hot rod around. that being said i feel a 5 speed would be a great addition to my pickup that I drive daily and year round up here in Montana. So has anyone done this? Or know what tranny would bolt up? and some pros and cons? Thanks in advance.

Re: Can this be done??

There are later model 5 speed transmissions available....$$$, but you would have to have an adapter to keep your NP205. Again...$$$

Probably the easiest/cheapest way to cut down the RPM at highway speed is to install taller tires, but that only goes so far too. Then you are getting into lift kits, etc to make them fit. You can usually go up a few sizes w/o lifting, but the RPM drop is not "significant"...it helps though.

How about a new venture 4500 5 speed overdrive? (early 90s GM) Try looking around the Advance Adapters website to see if you could put this tranny in frount of your transfer.
