Has anyone converted their trucks to rack and pinion steering ?
Has anyone here converted their trucks to rack and pinion stering using the stock suspension? I have seen some with aftermarket suspension, but I was interested to see if there was any way to use the stock stuff with a later power rack ?
I searched the threads but found nothing |

Here are a couple threads on the subject. Not sure how much of it deals with stock suspension:

Not sure how well you can see it in the picture, but i have it set up so that the shaft would go underneath the motor mount, and the rack mounts directly to the crossmember. But now with my new motor plans i may have to redesign, but technically this setup should work with the stock motor mounts.

Re: Has anyone converted their trucks to rack and pinion steering ?
I cant remember exact. My dad picked up a handful of racks from the junk yard back when we first started this ( years ago) and we used the one that best fit. But i want to say it is definitely FORD, and off of a later model thunderbird.

Re: Has anyone converted their trucks to rack and pinion steering ?
I made my own front crossmember w/ rack mounts. I also used the T-Bird rack Mine fits '84-88 T Bird/Mustang.
SIDENOTE: You most likely do not want to get one from a turbo t-bird or GT mustang- they have VERY quick responsiveness and can be "twitchy" in these old trucks |
