You Guy May Hate Me For This....

i just picked this and one more like it up yesterday. its a surprise 50th birthday gift to my father. he's big into the the rat rod thing and i decided that a ratty ford powered by a chevy would fit the bill. this truck will be getting my old faithful 6 cylinder and 3-speed tranny, a good lowered stance and maybed a power disc setup. the goal is to have it moving by mid-July. so, tell me what you Really think.

Re: You Guy May Hate Me For This....

I'm not a F**d guy at all, but that's a cool-looking truck. I like the 53-56 F-100s even better - almost traded one of my Chevys for one recently (truck was too far away)

Re: You Guy May Hate Me For This....

It's great you'd want to build something for your dad. I've had my eye on many F1's and F100's over the years, along with quite a few Advance Design Chevys. Just never found a good enough deal to put one in my driveway. I'd never pass up anything I liked because of brand loyalty, for me it's too restricting. I buy whatever makes me happy.

The last truck I bought was a 68 F250 for my wife. It was an immaculate one owner cherry, and she loved the truck. The only problem I ever had with the truck was I hated working on it. Since I'm fundamentally a Chevy guy, anything needing attention seemed to take twice as much effort to fix.

Cracked? That's too bad cuz those flatheads are getting hard to find, and they're bringing some serious coin.

As long as i'm wrenching on classic iron i dont care who's it is or what make it is. Plus, when i was about 12 years old my dad got rid of his '65 bbw short fleet so he could pay for christmas and then 3 years later sold his '66 thunderbird for the same reason. i tried to buy back the t-bird when i was about 17 but got ripped off to the tune of $2000 and ended up with no money and no car. And as far as me being a cool son for doing this; i feel its the other way around. i was lucky to have a father that would make those sacrifices for his kids. And I've never been one to favor one particular brand over another, i've owned mavericks, rivieras, camaros, chevelles, dodge trucks, ect.; whatever tickles my fancy at the time.

Like old Fords ('40s and '50s). They lost me in the '60s. I remember being a teenager and going to an electrical shop and seeing a Ford starter chart on the wall.

Re: You Guy May Hate Me For This....

The 250 will mount just like a SBC if you use the original adapters that go between the engine and the motor mounts . They should already be on the 250 in your truck . Go to www.speedwaymotors.com . They sell a variety of universal motor mount and finding one to fit Chevy 6 into the Ferd shouldn't be a problem . Simply use one that adapts a SBC to the model Ferd you have . Good luck !

Re: You Guy May Hate Me For This....

I dont know why i didnt think of that.. i receive the speedway catalogs religiously. i think i may end up using the tube style mount that goes from rail to rail with the sbc perches on it. thnks for reminding me!
