it wont bolt up, but if you t-case is '85 or newer, it will be alot easier.

Not just a "bolt in" conversion. Parts needed. Bellhousing, trans itself, adaptor plate to your existing 205 'figure 8' pattern, driveline mods, conversion of your existing 205 to a 32 spline input. The T-case problem can be solved by locating a later model 205 with the round pattern (as stated above) this may aleviate the adaptor problem also, depepnding on which 4500 you get

ok cool. i just looked and the adapter alone is almost a grand! think i'll keep looking for a complete truck to strip. i just hate to lose my granny gear. need it bad. not that my sm465 doesn't work, just wish it didn't wind out so much on the highway. thanks for the help.

musclerodz did this conversion on their 68 K-20 build... you can search for the thread..

Advanced adapters make a kit for this...

Re: sm465 swap to nv4500 anyone done this?

The 465 clutch and hardwear will work with the Advance bellhousing. It's an easy swap, once you shell out for the Advance housing and be sure to get the trans case shifter relocator part from them. You will need the 32 spline female shaft with the bigger bearing no your 205 to accept the NV tranny. If you don't have it you'll have to swap yours out. Be sure you have the GM NV and not the dodge. You'll have to cut about 5/8" off the output shaft of the NV and remove the balancer. If your 205 is a figure 8 model you'll need to buy another adapter from advance. It's bolts to the new NV and clocks your 205 in the right position.

Ps. if your looking for a complete driveline to use BE CAREFUL. The Gm's that used this tranny have the hydro clutch on the passenger side, it will hit your front driveshaft.
