Exhaust System
Hey guys, I've got an '87 TBI Silverado and am looking at doing a new exhaust system. I've been looking at a set of long-tube headers that are ceramic coated from Summit Racing.
I know I'm going to have to go to a 3-wire (heated) o2 sensor, but my question is the placement of the sensor. I found some collector reducers with the o2 bung already installed, which seems preferable than trying to weld one into the header collector itself. Will this be too far away from the exhaust ports to put the o2 sensor or will it be ok since I'm going with a heated sensor? Thanks for the help. |

Re: Exhaust System
When I did mine, I bought reducers with the bung in them, but later decided not to use them. I drilled a hole in the driver side collector and welded in a bung, it has worked very well and was easy. I ran the stock o2 sensor for a few years, then just recently went with a heated sensor. Cold starts have improved a little, and mileage is just a bit better, but it still ran well before.

Re: Exhaust System
I would do it on the collector, dont the camaro headers already have an o2 sensor in them? I know alot of guys have been using them on the trucks to have more clearance.

Re: Exhaust System
Chevelle headers for the '68-72 models? What model Camaro headers fit? The one's I found on Summit are like $220 and they are ceramic coated (that's the only reason I'm asking about getting the collector reducers with the bung as I'm not sure how it would work to drill a hole and weld the bung in the header collector's themselves.) Thanks for the help guys.
