Header Bolts
Does anyone have any recommendations for header bolts that are particularly good at holding on?

Re: Header Bolts
Most brands are no better than others. I've always used off the shelf header bolts from the local auto supplier. They just need to be re-torqued 2 or 3 times of hot to cold cycling.
Be sure to use anti-seize on header bolts. |

Re: Header Bolts
Totally Stainless sells something called a Total-Loc header bolt that's supposed to be really good, but they're kinda pricy.

Re: Header Bolts
if you use stage "8" header bolts with locks you'll never use anything else. They certainly are much much better. John

Re: Header Bolts
I have found that on my big block truck you can use grade 8 bolts with lockwashers, but on small blocks I have used regular header bolts and drilled and safety wired them with no problems.

Re: Header Bolts
I'm not exactly sure of the name, but the ones I use are 12 point stainless with an allen set screw in the middle, you snug your bolt, then tighten the set screw. They work great, and cost about 50 bucks, so you don't want to lose one. Good luck

Re: Header Bolts
I bought some off the shelf ones at a local hi po store that had 3/8" heads instead of 7/16. I put some loc-tite on them and they never came loose... And before you say it, I had no problem cracking them loose when the &%$# gasket flew south on me...

Re: Header Bolts
Simple remedy is a hack saw. Get the cheapo header bolts, tighten them and forget about them. Oh and get ya a set of manifold gaskets for about 7 bucks. No problems going on 20 years.
