68 K10 Lift kit, tire size? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Wanting to lift my 68 K10 4 inches. What size tires do people recommend for that size lift??? I was thinking 33's or 35's X 12.5" wide. (Most likely Toyo MT's) Not sure if 35's will rub with a 4" lift. Any suggestions or comments?

I too am thinking of lifting my truck. Its a 71' though and i believe it already has a body liift...i have 30inch wheels on mine (i just measure from bottom of the wheel to the top) I think if you get a 4'' lift you shouldnt really have to worry but im not quite sure.

I had a 4" Rancho lift with 35" bfg's on 8" wheels, no rub. Other lift kits maybe less lift though. You will definitely have no problem with 33''s. Trevor

You do realize that the 67/68 suspensions are the red headed step child of after market suspension suppliers right? As far as I know there are no aftermarket dealers supplying suspension lifts for the 67/68 years.

I had to have mine redone at a spring shop that made springs for large trucks, and that was over ten years ago and today? doubt it.

Another reason to say WTF regarding parts houses that claim to be all that.

BTW. My rebuilds with an added leaf let me run 33x12.50's no problem.

most popular with a 4" lift would be 33's most go 35's with 6" lifts. i've heard that if you just do street/show with your truck...35's should be ok, but i go offroad so 35's and 6" for me. if i was staying 4" lift and planned on going off the street i would only go 33's

not always true though... depends on rim size, tire width and backspacing.... also how tired your springs are... I do have 33x10.5 on stock springs...

35's will be close.. 33x12.5 fit nicely though...

ditto on the 68 springs options, maybe try a rear shackle flip and new front springs.

I'm just going to buy all new springs and do it that way instead of blocks. I have heard that the 67/68's are a pain to lift but it has mostly to do with the steering shaft and the frame I have has the updated steering box already on it and the guy that is doing some of the work for me says it is no problem and he has been around chevy's his entire life. As far as offroading goes, my pickup will not see more gravel roads than my half mile drive way. Way too much money invested to take this thing and mess up the paint job and all other work that's been put into it. The rims will be 18's, and wasn't thinking of having any offset. I don't think 35's will be a problem, just more money! Thanks for the pic Trevor.

i have the most un-orthodox lift / suspension parts for a 67 longbed sitting in my garage right now. all parts to lift except the shocks and new drive shafts that i'll get after i get the stance figured out. i ordered from about 5 or 6 differant companies. if my calculations are correct about 7" lift on 35's and upgraded stock steering with the push pull j-arm. it's going to be an adventure to say the least. should be starting this in about a month. just waiting on my plane ride home. good luck with the lift

I run 12.50/33s on 10" rims and very tired springs on my`72 K2500.With good body mounts you can run 12.50/35s and a 4" lift and 8" wheels.If you wheel really hard they can rub as well as many other numerous ways to damage the truck.If you wheel it that hard you might just want to cut the fenders.I either wheel`em or keep`em pretty.The keep`em pretty trucks run 4"/35s/8" wheels/uncut fenders.
Your buddy must not know that there are no off the shelf lift kits made for pre-69 GM 4wds.The springs are wider.I`ve known guys to put spacers between the spring eyes and the hangers.

what's the wheel size/backspacing. also any concerns with the drivershaft u-joints pre-maturely wearing out with that much lift? finally are the driveshafts stock length?

33s would be best for a 4in lift. 31s would look too small and 35s would be a tight fit and might rub.
